Just heard this. She was 73, and apparently had been battling with leukaemia for some time.

I mean, f*ck. Now I'm depressed.

Sad. She has been one of my favorite singers since I first heard At Last in an episode of Northern Exposure.

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

R.I.P.

I don't mean any disrespect, but I honestly didn't even realize she was only in her 70s, or for that matter, recently still among the living.

Her last TV performance -- keep in mind that she was suffering from undiagnosed dementia and (I believe) already battling cancer -- it's astonishing. She's 70! We make a lot of excuses for BW, but there's no excuse needed for this.

Even more impressive? She released a new album _four months ago_, after her health had declined to the point that she couldn't tour anymore. And it's great too!

When you've got it, you've got it.  She never sang that song the same way twice.  Gotta love her.

I always liked how she did Sunday Kind of Love... she'd get downright RAUNCHY with some of the performances.

I wish those dumb dancers would get out of the way. That audience is being graced with a greatness not likely to happen again in music. Not even in a hundred years or more from now. I consider "At Last" to be one of the few "perfect records" ever made. It's up there with "My Girl", "A Change Is Gonna Come" and "God Only Knows".

Yeah, it really is.  It's timeless, too, literally everybody likes that song.  12 year old kids with ipods download it, 80 year old widows cherish it.  A literally universal song, well written, but a performance of it that's even better than that.

You can't hate the dancers too much, that's the show's thing, let them have their thing, lol.

Did you ever hear the original ?

I love this jazz/big band stuff (not too much a fan of Glenn Miller's sound though) but Etta added another dimension to it. It's just - like already mentioned - a recording for the ages
