I won't be buying the heavy boxset, but I'm buying the 2cd mini set.  I'm not buying the boxset because I think the price is just more than I can feel good about spending on 1 album.  I can afford it, I have plenty of money to spend on stuff like that but that's pretty crazy money in my opinion for a cd.

Huh. I thought there were 5 CD's, 2 LP's, 2 45's, and a 60 page book in the box set. That sure is worth 140 bucks to me!! With all the stuff that's in the box set that's not in the 2-CD set and all your hoopla on the board about Smile the last few months and you're only buying the 2-CD set??? Siiiiiiiiiiiiiit!!  Are you sure you have plenty of money??   Roll Eyes

There are 5cd's, 2 lp's, 2 45's, and a 60 page book in the box set, yes.  Did I ask to buy 5 cd's, 2lp's, 2 45's, and a 60 page book?  No.  I didn't.  I just want the album, or some facsimile of said album that can be constructed through Mark Linett's magical fingers.  Since I HAVE been 'hoopla' ing on the board, I'm buying the extravagant 2 CD set which has an extra CD of other takes and weirdo obsessive fan stuff, instead of just the 1 CD set.  Yes, I'm sure I have plenty of money.  The reason I have plenty of money is because I don't spend $150 when $15 will do.

If someone really has the money, they could get the light-up set fpr $700.  Or the surfboard.  Are there really people out there willing to spend that much on their Brian Wilson/Beach Boys obsession?  Although I suppose if you add up all the money spent over the years on all the albums released in various forms and going to Brian Wilson and/or Beach Boys shows, you wouldn't really want to think about it. I've seen Brian about eight times, maybe more.  I didn't see him the last tour, and perhaps the tour before that.  Maybe I'm just a little less into it than I used to be.

If you don't want to BUY it, you could always just listen to it on Spotify....

Yeah I know of someone who is going the light-up boxset route.  Actually it would have really been neat given unique nature of the SMiLE Shop artwork if even the standard boxes lit up.  But then we'd probably be shelling out a lot more for them and they would sell less and there would probably be all kinds of economic reasons why that wouldn't be feasible.  But seriously, lighting up the SMiLE Shop?  What a cool idea!

I know, I'm not opposed to a light-up box.  In fact, it looks really cool in the video.  I'm just not sure why it costs hundreds of dollars more than the non-light-up box.  I know the production run was limited, but still.  Maybe they're all made by hand?   I'm also suprised the production run is as large as it is.  I think there would be a large number of people who would have liked to have a light-up box, I'm just surprised they believe it will be several hundred people willing to spend that much money (I think more would go for it if it were only $50-100 more).  I also wonder if they will get stuck with some of them and they'll later be available for a reduced price.  There was some kind of 3D packaging for certain versions of BWPS that were much cheaper than that, yet they were later available at a significant discount, because they couldn't sell them at a higher price.

The main reason I bought the Smile box is to make it so that Summer in Paradise wasn't the most expensive BB item I own. I could take or leave what's inside.

Okay, I  decided to try to buy the 2 disc set from DeepDiscount, but it won't let me check out.  Hmm.  Maybe I'm just not meant to own this. Or I need to come up with an extra $4 and order from Amazon.  I checked the rating for DeepDiscount on a consumer site and it got one star out of five with over 200 ratings.  I read bad things about them a few years ago, and apparently they're even worse now.   I wonder if anyone will have any luck with them, since they are the cheapest.

It's not my #1 priority right now----I'm saving my eurocents for a Falco album----but the 2-CD set is on my list. :=)

Yeah, I won't use DeepDiscount anymore.  It used to be a necessary evil with their bi-annual 20% off sales, but they were always very slow and the customer service was really, really bad.  From what I've been told they are indeed worse now.

I got mine through Deep Discount.  They estimated it wouldn't be here until around the 11th, but mine arrived yesterday, the 5th, so I was happy overall.  Their tracking left much to be desired, but I'd put that on DHL, not the site.

After a long wait and what I thought was a missed delivery, I finally have the 5-cd set!  This is so surreal, I feel weird taking the shrink wrap off!  And re: this thread, I knew that I had to get the full boxed set, because I knew that it just wouldn't feel right for there to be officially released material out there that wasn't in my possession!  I may wind up getting the 2-cd set too.  I've just been skimming the boards lately...so does the 2-cd set have the contents that are on the vinyl?  Sorry if that sounds ignorant...

Side 4 of the LP and the Vega-Tables mix on the 45 are exclusive to vinyl.
