Brian what are you smoking man if you are now saying Good Vibrations is a pop record and not a rock & roll record? 21 years ago on TV you said no one ever considered good vibrations as a rock & roll record, but it WAS, it ROCKED, it really rocked. so what - now it's pop? be confident! people were FLIPPIN saying that's a great fuckign record man! and that goshdarn record came out and it went to number one in the nation, in the whole nation.

Mmmmm just listen to that funky psychedelic rock & roll bass. Groovy stuff. Brian was the leading man in psychedelic music - Jim Morrison knew it and wanted to work with him. I bet he was as hypnotized by The Little Girl I Once Knew as John Lennon. Personally I think it's all in the mono - the good music is essential but the mono makes it so potent to my brain. Good Vibrations oozes effortless cool, breezy californian psychedelia, vacations to Hawaii to the little pad in the jungle. Little cabin, light the lamp and fire mellow, cabinessence timely hello. Ahh, relax, enjoy smoking.

Man, it isn't 'rock'. It's main rhythmic force comes from a bleedin' cello, and the most prominent instrument besides that is a harpsichord. If it was rock, it would be something like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nC2gZMNkyJo

On the single, the middle eight (well, the first one) comes close to shoegaze, if forcing wholly inappropiate genres onto Good Vibrations seems like a enjoyable pasttime. Dom Priore also called unreleased bits 'Dixie', which only tells me that myself and Mr. Priore have very different definitions of Dixie.

But, somehow, someway, we will have to live with the fact that Brian just managed to write the greatest pop record of all time, and not the greatest rock record.  Roll Eyes

Good Vibrations is more rock & roll than you pretenders will ever even know. I doubt you've ever even played this music loud enough to hear it. You just hear whisperings of it in your office cubicle. I take it to the mountains and blast it for the eagles. good, good, GOOD, GOOD VIBRATIONS YEAH. That's rock & roll man, rock & roll is vibrations, good vibrations.

Please, when you're tripping & high and blasting Good Vibrations - let me tell you something, it's friggin' rock & roll man!!!! Crazy cosmic ethereal funky psychedelic rock & roll!!!

And who said a cello can't be rock & roll? It's one helluva rockin' cello! While the Beatles were using lame studio effects Brian was using cellos to get more authentic sounds. Good Vibrations actually sounds like the sort of flickering, shimmering, vibrating experience one has on psychedelic drugs. That ain't so easy to capture in music!

Good Vibrations, taken at it's most basic form, is pretty much a boogie woogie styled blues.

Pop has become a much-maligned word, like a sort of second-best. It's time it was treated with more respect. In my opinion "Good Vibrations" is pop----at its very finest.

Apart from anything else, deffo an R'n'B kinda feel in them choruses, right?

Not sure how relevant this is, but the ending that Brian's band do can only be described as ROCKING.

Just a couple thoughts.

I guess you reptilians feel nothing then when Brian in a moment of rare televised enthusiasm and lucidity declared with a hint of desperation in his voice that Good Vibrations was a rock & roll record that ROCKED, you know, it really ROCKED.
