In the merged Smile threads, I don't think I saw discussed (or disgust) what people are hoping to see....so...how about a thread for JUST that?? What do you hope is in the set?

I know I'm dreaming on some of this, but here's what I'd love to see and hear:

- A repro of the Unsurpassed Masters Vol. 17 book -- so we can have something to use as a paradigm for poor, ill-researched writing -- and laughs.

- Hoping Capitol and everybody else involves keeps the track listing 100% hush-hush, no spoilers, no nothing, but the box set contains an outer box that gives absolutely no indication of what songs/fragments/etc. are contained; just a big message (in the original font) telling you to "See label for correct playing order" so that the only way to know what's in it is to actually open the thing (or have someone who already did that tell you what's on it).

- The original marketing recording (the "million units in January" tape) in much better sound quality

- Confirmed session dates attached to many of the bits we may have heard, including Marilyn singing "Vegetables" and the chants

- "Vegetables" sessions in which Paul McCartney's voice is audible either in the studio or booth. (Probably booth, as I think it's been debunked that he actually performed on the tune.)

- An unfaded stereo mix of the "Surf's Up" demo that appeared on disc 2 of Good Vibrations

- An unfaded copy of the "Humble Harv" demo of "Heroes And Villains"

- "Do You Like Worms" / "Roll Plymouth Rock" with vocals, complete with lyrics (hey, Domenic Priore insisted in his Fishwrap article that it exists  Roll Eyes)

- The "cantina" version of "Heroes And Villains" with the train vocals intact (really, why did they cut those out, and why didn't Brian and company do those in concert?)

- A better, cleaner copy of "Barnyard"

- A bonus DVD with footage of P**l C***n eating not only his but ALL of our hats

- "The Old Master Painter" with those Easternish drums

- The complete booklet, with Frank Holmes art, full-sized

- A stereo backing track, stereo vocals synchronization of "Good Vibrations" as a hidden track, five minutes after the final listed track ends -- as a huge surprise, of course, keeping tight lips on the fact that they found the original multitracks...then, "Good Vibrations" a capella. (MIND YOU - THIS IS FANTASY. I DON'T KNOW IF THEY FOUND THE ORIGINAL MULTITRACKS, AND I DON'T WANT TO KNOW!!!)

A properly mixed 'Wonderful' instrumental with background vocals - much like the version on Secret Smile.

Yeah, this subject has been done to death.  Hell, SMiLE has been done to death.

The best thread is Catbirdman's. There's another one that Iron-Horse Apples didn't mention - the one recently where there was a vote on specific wants. There were 10-15 of them I think.

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

Besides having the obvious tracks in the highest quality that's available, I'd love to hear a piano only version of the Surf's Up demo.  Brian's playing on the coda is phenomenal and I'd love to hear it isolated.  A vocal only version would be great too.

They did, but chose to do it at another spot: if I remember correctly, as a link between RPR and Barnyard.

I'd be very happy with just all the know tracks in the best quality, and some simple mixes. For example, Look given a fade-out and a clean mix of the Water Chant. I hope they that they include some clean mixes of the tracks and parts used in the Smile mix on disc 1. Otherwise we would have various tracks in best quality but faded in, and out. If they include a mix of CIFOTM on disc 1 (like BWPS), they should incude the rough mixes and parts on the other 3 discs.

I'd like to see a (Close as we can get) approximation of what a finished album
sounds like.

Fly in vocals and bits, enhance mixes, find lead vocals for songs that didin't get finished
from 20/20 or Surf's up or Smiley or whatever..

Do anything short of having them come in the studio at 70 and sing the parts.
(which they probably wouldn't anyway)

I still want to hear all the fragments and original pieces and alternates, but I think
a finished sounding album, would be the one I would go to over and over in the
long run.

But thats just me. I'd rather hear a good stereo mix too, but it's probably impossible
because some of the unearthed songs and overdubs probably don't exist in stereo.

- An unfaded copy of the "Humble Harv" demo of "Heroes And Villains"

The second edition of the ENDLESS HARMONY soundtrack featured a non-faded version I believe (it was extended at least to the point where the performance had stopped).

The "train vocals" show up twice on the studio version of BWPS: at the tail end of the "cantina" bridge and, as mentioned, as a transition between "Roll Plymouth Rock" and "Barnyard". However, when performed live, the "train vocals" only appear after RPR.

I've already said this on several other threads, but here goes anyway..... I want to hear Dennis' I Don't Know and the Jasper Dailey tracks (Teeter Totter Love, When I Get Mad I Just Play My Drums, etc.).

They are from that same time period, though. I consider them fair game.

Well, they're including "Cool, Cool Water" from five months after Smile was abandoned, so...

You guys have probably already heard everything recorded for it on the boots, I doubt they'll be more material (other than stuff they cook up, like mixing things differently or stereo versions or whatever).

I don't have much hope that there will be much of anything new on there.  Plus the remix of the tracks to make it sound like BWPS is just boring to me.  It's already been done online anyways.

Acapella mixes would probably be my favorite thing to hear, but I suppose that's probably been booted too.

But they are Smile era tracks - I'd say they'd provide context. We'll see.

It's already been done online? Use your brain for a second here. Mark Linett and Alan Boyd aren't downloading bootleg torrents of the material and editing it in Audacity.

Regarding the SMiLE songs that never had lead vocals recorded.

has anything been learned about that, because of the tracklist?

In other words, do we now know anymore than we did, about
whether or not missing lead vocals were ever found or flown
in from other sources or takes.

How many of the songs on the "close as we can get"
disc one, will not have lead vocals.

Of the often speculated 12 tracks from the aborted
66 record sleeve list, how many were thought to
have never gotten lead vocals recorded ? four ?

where does that stand now ?

So now for 146 bucks I have a cleaner sounding version of the bootleg.  I might just wet my pants, then.  Shut the f*** up with that 'use your brain' stuff too, have a little respect.

Do you honestly think they just came up with new vocal tracks for stuff that's been released over and over again with no vocal track?  Ain't no way.

i just don't want the songs to too closely resemble the BWPS counterparts.  there's a lot of cool moments i hope they were able to include.
