Haven't really been keeping up recently, but saw that in the upcoming esq something about Mike, Al, Bruce, and Brian re-recording Do It Again?  Sounds cool, does anyone have any details?  I looked at the recent threads but couldn't find anything.

But WHY Huh  Who is their adviser ?
If it ever gets released, I hope it's just a bonus track that you can download on itunes like Brian's "Message man" etc.

And just look on the BeachBoysExaminer-site: There's a newly found Carl Wilson recording ! Another candidate for an album that features vintage recordings of Carl and Dennis.

I'm happy for anything new, especially if they record together.

The way I read that, "Waves of Love" is a bonus track on the physical release of A Postcard From California.  BMI.com lists the song as written by Larry Dvoskin & Al Jardine.

But ONLY if they record together. Not: Mike in his hotel room, Al at the Studio, Carl flown in, Brian over the phone....

I hope the reunion tour will be called "Do it again"-tour. Then a re-recording would make at least some sense. But by God, no other re-recordings for cryin' out loud.

So Al is wasting those Carl-vocals and using them for his own albums instead of giving them to the Beach Boys for the new album ?  Cheesy    Just kidding, but I take my jokes seriously....

If you can get Carl's vocal any other way, I'd love to see it. Wink

I don't think "Do It Again" lends itself particularly well to re-recording. To this day I haven't even heard a live version I really enjoyed, with the notable exception of the Live in London '69 recording.

I managed to contact LD about a question asked on the Capitol board about his dealings with The Beach Boys. He kindly posted his answer there:

The little bird who heard it through the grapevine told me the session went badly, and ended with major disagreements. I guess in a way that really is getting together and doing it again.

I'd rather listen to the fight than the re-recording.

What they should have done is recorded the fight and then put it at the beginning of a new recording of TM Song!!!!

Would you really expect it to turn out any differently? Predictable....and the primary reason not to re-plow that road.

Jon - Why no David Marks?  Kinda makes my blood boil that they'd do something like this without David.  Maybe they'd get along better with David around.  He seems to have a calming influence.

David could get them to stop fighting because he is on good terms with all of them.

In an earlier thread, ESQ Editor posted this about the "Do It Again" sessions:

Quote
Mike and I sat down last night over dinner and discussed a lot of things. Among them, he and Brian going into Capitol Records and recording "Do It Again" together.  He said when he finished recording his vocal Brian said, "Not bad for a 70 year old."  At that point Mike laughed.

Mike would not go into much detail, but did say the main reason for doing it was to see if they could do it as an effort to prove it to one another.  Mike even asked me about logo designs… so he's got his mind on a 50th packaging.

Yes, that's been confirmed by Alan himself.
