Say what??  I was listening to (The Beatles') "Rubber Soul" one night and I was so blown away that I went to the piano. I said, "I'm going to try to write an album just as good as `Rubber Soul.' " So I wrote a good album. "Summer Days (and Summer Nights)" was somewhat rock 'n' roll, but I wanted to make an album that was out-and-out rock 'n' roll

Well, of course Pet Sounds wasn't Rock'n'Roll at all.

Love this:

My brother Dennis said, "Why don't you write a song about surfing?" so I wrote a song about surfing called "Surfin.' "

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

"I walk two-and-a-half miles a day for exercise," said Wilson, who lives in Beverly Hills."

Beverly Hills? Did he move out of Chicago?

Brian only lived in St. Charles (outside of Chicago) for maybe a year, back when IMAGINATION was being recorded there. He returned to California shortly thereafter.

Captain, if we go "by the numbers" like Mr. Wilson, minutes could seem like hours.

Why does Brian Wilson grant interviews? Why do people still want to interview him?

Why does Brian Wilson grant interviews? Why do people still want to interview him?

Brian doesn't grant interviews. His management arranges them. The current round is promo for his upcoming US/Canadian Gershwin dates, and prior to that he flew to England to boost ticket sales for the fall tour.

Why do people still want to interview, say, Macca, Mick or Frankie Valli. Living history.

Nor me, but the court case brought by Brian's management against Joe Thomas wasn't exactly what you'd call private.  Grin

Why do you post about him and his music? Dude's interesting. To say the least....

By virtue of his music, primarily his work with the Beach Boys, Brian Wilson is "interesting", and I don't think Andrew goes too far in calling him a piece of "living history".  But does anyone here think that the interview linked above made people more likely to plunk down $100 to see Brian? I learned from the interview that he walks 2.5 miles per day, and I'm glad he's taking good care of himself, but is this really worth putting in print?

There are a number of accomplished, interesting people who come across as otherwise in interviews, and Brian Wilson is not alone.  But I really wish he were better at telling us about what he knows and what he's experienced.

Is it safe to say that they're somewhat...sane?

Brian was a lot more lucid in his twenties and even his thirties.  Back than he told some very interesting stories behind the songs. Even the Les Chan tape has a Brian who is willing to give detail.
