http://www.examiner.com/beatles-in-national/ringo-starr-contributes-new-track-to-star-studded-buddy-holly-cd-tribute
Ringo Starr, like his fellow Beatle Paul McCartney, will contribute a track to a new (and different) Buddy Holly tribute CD coming out this year.
This CD, called "Listen to Me: Buddy Holly," and produced by Songmasters Inc. in cooperation with Maria Elena Holly, Buddy's widow, will feature, besides Ringo, Jeff Lynne, Stevie Nicks, The Fray, Natalie Merchant, Patrick Stump, Jackson Browne, Chris Isaak, Cobra Starship, Pat Monahan of Train, Imelda May and Brian Wilson and possibly others.
Ringo Starr's contribution will be a cover of Holly's "Think It Over." Other tracks include "Words of Love" by Jeff Lynne, "Listen to Me" by Brian Wilson, "True Love Ways" by Jackson Browne , Peggy Sue by Cobra Starship, "Crying Waiting Hoping" by Chris Isaak, "Take Your Time" by the Fray, "Well Alright" by Lyle Lovett, "Looking for Someone to Love" by Imelda May, "Maybe Baby" by Pat Monahan of Train, "Not Fade Away" by Stevie Nicks, "Learning the Game" by Natalie Merchant and "Everyday" by Patrick Stump. More titles may also be added.
The disc is being produced by nine-time Grammy Award winner Peter Asher. Asher is currently on tour and is playing Feinstein's at Loew's Regency in New York this week and has also been involved with the music for the newest "Pirates of the Caribbean" film. (Cobra Starship includes his daughter, Victoria.) David Leaf ("The U.S. vs. John Lennon") is producing and directing film and audio recordings of the studio sessions. A DVD release of the film is planned, among other things.

I heard about this project recently, didn't realize Brian was involved - looking forward to hearing his contribution (and that of some of the other artists).

There is also a more 'fashionable' Buddy Holly tribute coming out. Shame Brian couldn't be involved with that, honestly. He is innovative enough not to be just a Jackson Browne on tribute albums. He deserves better.

As I know nothing about either one, what makes the other so special?
the one with Brian and Ringo seems like it will be pretty cool, what with Peter asher and Maria Elena being involved; It would seem a tribute is a tribute. what is going to make the other stand out?

Here's some info on the more "fashionable" tribute - it features more contemporary artists and (of course) Sir Paul.

So, following the rhetoric of this other release, it's "better" because "Rave On's striking collection of musicians share Holly's insurgent rebel spirit and outsider point of view. The artists cross generations and styles, collectively and defiantly embracing Holly's distinctive rough and tumble inventiveness. Very few songwriters could inspire passionately personal, fearless cover versions from performers" ??
Who's to say the Brian/Ringo set isn't just the same? ( other than the boasting)

Nothing, although if you take away Brian, I'd be more excited about the other one just based on the artist listing, but that's mostly down to personal preferences. Not to say that Listen to Me won't be well done, but the performers listed don't really give you that "rebellious" and "fearless" type of vibe.

Yeah, the "fashionable" one definitely has a nice list of artists. Shame Brian couldn't be on THAT one.

I prefer the list of artists on the one Brian is on. Just swap Paul for Ringo.
Jeff Lynne is awesome.

Doesn't Paul own the rights to all of Buddy's music? So I wouldn't wonder if he appears on every tribute that has some kind of commercial potential

Jeff Lynne is awesome.
Pair Ringo with Paul, and get Mike, Al, Dave & Bruce to contribute to Brian's treack and you've Beatles & Beach Boys reunions on the same disc.
Maybe not…

I only meant that, personally, I hold Brian in the same kind of light as Lou Reed, Patti Smith, etc. Not Ringo Starr.... The other looks like the covers will be more interesting, and I don't really see Brian as the same kind of rock dinosaur as Jeff Lynne.
And the fashionable tribute has Kid f*&#in' Rock! Why?

Shoulda had Brian or Jeff Lynne do "Peggy Sue" or "That'll Be The Day" or "It's So Easy" or "Words of Love". Or have he and Al re-cut Peggy Sue! Stevie Nicks and Jackson Brown do a Buddy Holly cover? Nahhhh. Nice to see Macca, Graham Nash, and Lou Reed represent the music. But who cares about those other people. What is this, another showcase for up and cuming artists? I'm sure Elena's never heard of them.
Looking forward to the free download.....

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!
