Whoa. That's long. I'll just pick a few for which I have a stronger preference:

- Cotton Fields (Al's cut)
- Aren't You Glad (Live in London)
- Break Away (alternate mix on Hawthorne, CA)
- Trombone Dixie
- Cool Cool Water

And -- if I may add one -- Wouldn't It Be Nice with Brian on the bridge. *prepares for dissent*

I made a list like this a few years ago for the Shut Down Board. A part of this list could be the premise of another thread - "Which Version Do You Like Most  - Studio or live?" Same goes for "Original Version or Alternate Mixes?"

But it's a good list!  How 'bout a morpher?  "All Dressed Up For School/I Just Got My Pay/Marcella". And another - "Darlin'/Thinkin' Bout You Baby". "I Get Around" studio or live/studio (Ha Ha!).

How about............"Black Widow/Let's Do It Again". "Walkin' The Line" BW version or version w/Terence D' Arby. "Meet Me In My Dreams Tonight" ver. 1 & 2, etc, etc.

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

You forgot one very important one: Don't Worry Baby studio vs. Don't Worry Baby from the In Concert LP. To which I would pick the latter.

I did think about that...kinda just stuck to basic differences.

I did forget about Black Widow and some other choices for Brian solo, it was getting late & I couldn't remember em all.  Grin

I always forget that version of That Same Old Song, i think it's only on one of my rarities comps.

I haven't listened to the demop of Midnight in a while...what major differences are there between it and the album cut?

Album cut is exact same lead vocal & basic instrumentation, with added bvs, percussion & strings.

I'm zeroing in on "Help Me Rhonda" and choosing the early alternate mix found in ENDLESS HARMONY. Brian's falsetto counterpoint, the alternate guitar solo and the heavier piano make this one the superior version for me; I never need to hear the '65 single (or the TODAY version) ever again.

No love for Big Sur (Holland)? I think Mike Love's lead vocal is even better on the released version and the humming backing vocals are just gorgeous.

Oh there's love for it allright, but it's up against one of their, imo, twenty best songs they ever did.

Cuddle Up (C&tP) vs [bold]Cuddle Up (45rpm mix)[/b]

I thought about added that, but I didn't know how much of a difference it made...like adding the single mix to Cool Cool Water, I feel like the single mix takes more away....if I'm not mistaken

I haven't listened to the demop of Midnight in a while...what major differences are there between it and the album cut?

Album cut is exact same lead vocal & basic instrumentation, with added bvs, percussion & strings.

And of course the mixing/mastering is noticeably different; in particular the lead vocal is a lot drier sounding in comparison to the demo where it is far more reverberant.

trying to think of alternate versions...I didn't know if it'd be nessesary to add tracks from the PS Sessions Box set...either a preference of vocals only or just the track, I could add em or whichever track you wanted.
Same goes with alternate versions from that set....I don't see many alternate versions being favored over the original, but I'm sure someone out there likes Carl singing Sloop ("I feel so BREAK up") better...perhaps some prefer the original speed to Caroline No....I'll go addy!

I don't know where to start!

If it's on CATP or Holland, odds are I prefer it on In Concert. Apart from Funky Pretty, but I never really got with that song anyway - BW on autopilot. And Let The Wind Blow off that LP is one of my top BB's moments.

The Forever acapella track is, to me, the definitive version of that song - the backing track is unspectactular, really, and those harmonies are so stunning.

Aren't You Glad really kicks ass on the Big Sur Festival boot, but any take with the horns is fantastic. Denny really swings into that one.

Darlin' really deserves a slow, lopin' bossa cover.
