Reminds me of the funniest caption IMO from the Ego Board.

Reagan...'Which one of you f****d my daughter?'
Mike....'We all did!'

It makes me cringe sometimes when I think that these guys were in any capacity buddy-buddy with Reagan. Ugh.

Not to malign someone who led California into some better days as our Governor, someone who had earlier in his career helped make a star out of Bonzo, went on to become President not only of the Screen Actors Guild, but of the whole-dang U.S. of A, and eventually allow my buddy Dennis a funeral normally reserved for Admirals & the like, but let's not forget how he developed such a close relationship with The Boys...
For further research, dig out a copy of daughter Patti Davis' autobiography, "The Way I See It"; to wit:  "And, to save you page-flipping to find out who the Reagans' wild daughter claims she has slept with or been otherwise romantically entangled with: actors Timothy Hutton (short involvement) and Peter Strauss (longer); doomed Beach Boy Dennis Wilson (intermittent, crisscrossing-lives sort of thing); Eagles member Bernie Leadon (live-in); singer Kris Kristofferson (interviewed him for a TV show in his hotel room, spent the night, drove Secret Service bonkers)."

From the Brit site.

Andrew:
I found the 1983 photo of the band and the Reagan's on the Reagan Library site. It's unfortunate that the view of Carl and Brian is blocked but at least we are all smiling!
We're playing an extremely short set Saturday night (20 minutes) but the program is two hours long.
I'm glad we were asked to be there and it will be fun to play with Al. I hope Brian is part of this event......

If Al shows up, neat. But pleeeeease, I hope Brian doesn't. Besides the fact that I don't want The Beach Boys to reunite for Ronald Reagan, I just think that would play Brian directly into Mike's hand. A short set? Ah, how convenient. Just time probably for the classic, scrubbed-clean, fun in the sun hits from 62-64, plus maybe "Kokomo". How about lets wait for a full fledged reunion, and do this the right way.

I think sort of a small concert like this could be good for the guys becoming okay with th "new" situation. So therefor I think Brian should be part of this. If this concert is good and everybody enjoys it then we can hope for a real reunion-concert.

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

I respectfully disagree with Jim. I hope Brian does show up, I hope David shows up, I even hope everybody who has ever been part of the BBs/BB band shows up. Probably not logistically practical or desirable, fine, whatever. I would just prefer that what I define as the actual core BBs only [Brian, Mike, Al, Bruce, David] would be out front carrying the vocal load. Maybe with a little discreet help from the back row. I would even love for Dennis and Carl to be present and participating by video and recording.

On the contrary, I think it's tailor-made for Brian:

1 - 20 minute set, so five songs tops...

2 - they'll be songs he can sing in his sleep...

3 - close enough to drive to, he can be home in time for bed...

4 - big media event, good publicity...

5 - he can forget about it the next morning (if he wants to...).

Absolutely agree. My god, if it were to come true... one last (?) time hearing the vocals melt into a sum greater than its parts... I think even with Denny and Carl missing, it could be praeternaturally beautiful.

Perhaps it all depends on: have the guys more or less come to terms with their own mortality? That is, I think, a conditio sine qua non to forget any childish and petty in-fighting, and arrogant declining of taking part in an occasion that will never ever return.

I mean, if it happened, I'd be as ecstatic as anyone. But I want, for once, the band to present themselves to the public in a way befitting of all the great music they made.

I guess what I'm saying is I just hope they do a proper reunion concert type thing.

But anyways, I wonder what the set-up would be if Brian ends up being there? Would he have his protective keyboard like his solo shows? Or do they throw him to the grand piano on the side of the stage again?
