To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Anyone remember the name of the original "Fairytale" that was produced by David (?) Foster, who also gets a co-credit on GIOMH ? Is it on youtube?
"Is There A Chance" (David Foster, Brian Wilson, Linda Thompson Jenner), from Foster´s CD "River Of Love" (1990).
Thanks ! Unfortunately it's not on youtube

Indeed ! Why couldn't I find it ? Thanks for the link !
Co-writer was Foster's then wife Linda Thompson who became "famous" as Elvis Presley's girlfriend from '72 - ca. '76

Never heard this. You can be sure he took the Beach Boys' recording as his inspiration.
Elton John - Cottonfields

McCartney & Wings did it too (a jam I guess), but first it's terrible and second I'm not sure the BBs version had any influence:

Danke! I'm going a little crazy over the past month and I just noticed I somehow made a feature length video collage and fractured cycle of songs and covers. Don't you HATE it when that happens?

Terrible.. This songs about Charle Manson?
??
Is that blatant disrespect and "please slap me til my face is tolerable" shtick just their thing/an inside joke that I'm obviously not in on? For what it was, their cover wasn't as repulsive as I thought it would be (though they obviously wish they were the Ramones and that just made me want to hear the actual Ramones do it instead) but the "this song's about Charles Manson"
and "I can't f'in stand the Beach Boys"
comments really rubbed me the wrong way. Just curious if they're *that* ignorant of where Sloop John B came from or were trying to be clever. I'd always heard good things about this band but was quite turned off by this clip.
