My main question is: who's playing solo guitar on these tracks? And it would also be nice if someone could tell me what type of guitar.
It plays counter melodies that are not on the studio version.
It is also interesting to listen to this different version of Cal Saga. No vocal intro, but the same solo guitar as in Marcella!

Pretty sure it's Blondie playing his standard Gibson, but with a slide.  Interesting to hear these 2 versions of Marcella back to back.  The bootleg version is brighter!

I was listening recently to Harmony Friends Disc 1 that i copied a while ago, and I have to thank myself from back then cuz every rarities cd I'd copy, I'd also fill up the rest of the disc with other 1-song rarities and today i found Brian performing This Could be the Night, I totally forgot he used to perform this live! It's light years ahead of his original rendition he cut with Paley, maybe it's just the sound quality I have. But what I was wondering was, I know this song was performed in the early days of his touring and I was thinking the BW On Tour DVD was filmed around the first few years around his touring, so, was there any footage cut of him performing this little gem? I wasn't sure if there was a lot of outtake footage from that time era.

I know there's a little bit of history with that tune, like the melody was played at a Smile session? I think that was in one of the newer Smile books but on this board, it was declined as being part of that era. And I think Brian took part of Brian's Back and used a little part on Good kind of Lovin or Morning Beat, one of those TLOS tunes.

yeah, that's true. Are you saying Brian took another Dennis riff and used it in a solo song? IE- Grateful are we for the little children made into Saturday Morning in the City?

I was recently listening to the Dumb Angel Rarities, I think it was Vol. 7...and it has three mixes of Rock and Roll to the Rescue:

I don't understand what 9 and 11 mean, 9 sounds like an instrumental only track & 11 just sounds like the regular track, if I'm thinking right...and what's "Percadella mix" mean? Sounds like less instruments and vocals.

Gotta admit, one of the best Beach Boy moments in the 80s is Carl's vocal: "Gotta getta ticket cuz I really gotta go, there's a party goin on at the rock and roll show"...pretty awesome...and pretty awesome they gave Brian a partial lead, it totally fits his way of thinking on music (in a way...IE Spirit of Rock and Roll)

That to me seems impressive albeit perhaps a little hyperbolic -- or perhaps it's unsurprising and that's just more Brianista myth-making!

I hear the majority of 15 Big Ones as a precursor to Love You. In the same way that Today is a precursor in spots to Pet Sounds.

Is there a fan mix of Heroes & Villains that includes all (or most) available sections? I'd imagine it would be around 10 minutes....

I have such a big long h&v mix I have cobbled together. Tis over ten minutes, it works for me... It would probably seem rough and amatuerish compared to one done by someone who knows what they are doing. Not sure how to share such a thing though... Still, to answer your question, there is one and it is ace.

The only vaguely strange or interesting thing is the "no green lighters" thing, which is probably there for reasons similar to Van Halen's "no tan M&Ms" thing in that it's there to make sure it's being read and the venue is being attentive to the safety of people there. Otherwise, sounds pretty tame/boring.

I was listening to Dumb Angel Rarities Vol. 3 (I believe with Holland- Love you piano demos) and I noticed that all the outtakes of 15 Big Ones (the oldies) don't really have any synth involved at all, so does that mean they weren't finished or they were "less superior" than the released oldies? I quite like that version of Come Go With Me, Sea Cruise and Micheal Rode a boat ashore.

Fairly sure Al has never tripped LSD. He said he wanted to get "as far away from that" when Brian drove him around the William Morris Agency parking lot, telling him about his trip and what it was like.

Bruce has been known to say he "didn't inhale", and there's a vintage article in LLVS that mentioned he didn't smoke or drink.

Doubt Mike took LSD either.
