Allegedly, Brian & Carl are on "Sound of Free". I've seen it mentioned almost as an aside in one contemporary article. Nowhere else.

Carl is very obviously on both POB and Bambu.
if only i had a legit recording, i would be able to tell

Well, you could try buying one... but if your ears can't hear Carl on even a 4th generation cassette dub of some of the POB tracks, then I suggest you change your allegiance to some other band less sonically delicate - say, Slipknot.  Grin
Actually I meant a legit recording of Sound of Free....of course I've got POB/Bambu, what am I, a Mike Love-fanatic?

In your opinion, what do you feel are the best tributes/dedications to Denny and Carl?

Carl's pretty easy- Brian's Lay Down Burden and his recording from a couple years ago of Heaven

Denny is a little tough- I would say the best dedication is The Beach Boys (1985) album...haha, just kidding.
The Taylor Hawkins' cut of Holy Man is up there as far as great tributes go.

Except that "LDB" isn't a tribute to Carl - one, it was a known title before the official announcement of his illness and two, the lyric is obviously boy/girl.

Lindsey Buckingham's "DW Suite".

oops.

I recall a couple of different stories around that time, one, didn't Brian want Carl to sing on it? or at least on a song for the album?  Also, weren't they discussing Van Dyke Parks writing some lyrics for a song for Brian and/or Carl to sing on?

Lindsey Buckingham's "DW Suite".

Could "Only Over You" by Fleetwood Mac and written by Christine McVie also be considered as a tribute ? (as it was written and released before Dennis' Death)

"DW Suite" is a really great piece, and the Christine song for Dennis (whom is thanked for inspiration in the 1982 credits) is good too!

Were any of the early songs, during the Hite Morgan sessions performed in concert?

Excluding Surfin' Safari, Surfer Girl, Surfin' and anything else that's obvious.

No, they never ever did anything that wasn't obvious. I thought that was obvious from their shows

This made me think about Luau and how Carl (I think) said: "let's do Luau" (something like that) during the Party! album...and to me, I think it'd be a far superior song to play than the I Get Around/LDC medley.

I've always heard that David's vocals for the band are the most evident on Louie Louie...when or what lines are David singing?

Or am I thinking of some other song?

Was Dave evident on any other songs?
I was thinking there was one on Surfin' Safari where each member had a line to sing

He's the main back-up on Summertime Blues. Otherwise, I think his backing vocals are pretty buried.

I always thought that by Louie, Louie he had left.

What a tease.  Razz I always thought Little Surfer Girl was a cool song. Well, what little has survived of it. I always thought that it sounded different from other Beach Boys songs from that period. I kind of look at it as a "missing link" in the group's evolving sound.

actually, now that I think about it, I think I read that Dave had the lead on Louie Louie when it was performed live...so I'm prolly incorrect as usual.  Roll Eyes

Question,
I was watching The BB: An American Family, of course, we don't take this as gospel....but I was wondering, it portrays Nick Venet not only signing them and producing them at the beginning, but he's also a major player at Capitol for the BB for their whole career (in the film); of course, I would understand just using one character as a Capitol Exec throughout the whole film.

So was he that instrumental in their career (Pet Sounds through even Endless Summer?) or was it just a movie part?

And of course, I understand not having time to throw WB Records in there at 1970.

Nik signed the band and 'produced' the first two albums, after which he pretty much took a back seat (although he did work with The Honeys). He left Capitol in 1969, so I'd be astonished if he had any input whatsoever after that.

As I recall, mostly songs of Denny's (on rarity form) are mislabeled and prolly for good reason being we simply don't know what they're called. But I was wanting to get cleared up on what these titles are and if there are any other titles on rarities that are mislabeled.

The titles I'm unsure of:
New Orleans (just mislabeled for Time for Bed?)
Organ duets
Quad instrumentals

San Miguel "new version/backing track"
All Of My Love
Piano duet (early River song riff?)
Follow Me to the Sea
Ecology (parts 1-3)
Instrumental (1:50 long)
Jam Session (7:08 long)

Besides the correct titles, is there anymore information about them?

And also, what is different about the recording of Love Remember Me (My Love's Coming Down) that was found on Get the Boot before the POB/Bambu release?
