why is Wendy so hot and Carnie so... not?

When Carnie is thin, I think she's super-hot!  Her personality is far more attractive than Wendy — Wendy seems like a bore.

I always found it odd that someone with Brian's record (drug use, mental illness, not a very good father for his biological daughters) got permission to adopt children. I don't know about the rules for adoption in America, but the Dutch people I know that adopted or tried to adopt children all had to deal with tons of paperwork for years and endless lists of impossible rules.

Someone can correct me if I am wrong about this but I think the deal with their adoptions was that it was like a "Juno" situation.  All three kids are actual brother and sisters, they are given by the same woman.  They found her when she was pregnant with the first one, paid all her medical expenses plus some and then she signed her parental rights over to them, so it was not a traditional adoption.  Then when she got pregnant the second and third time she offered the babies to them for more money.

As someone working through the adoption process right now, it can actually be far simpler than you think -- or far more complicated. If Brian and Melinda were working through an agency and trying to adopt from overseas, all of these things could be issues. Foreign countries can impose all sorts of requirements.

But if they were adopting from an individual in the US, who wanted to give her baby to them (which was indeed the case), all they would have to do is convince a social worker that they offered a good environment for a child. And given Brian's wealth and support staff, not to mention Melinda's clear competence in running a household, most social workers would give the okay. They would then have to go before a judge, but it's largely a formality.

The main point: If you have money and arrange an adoption privately, it can be really, really easy.

That's another great lyric: "A man needs a woman like a woman needs a man, and when the two get together oh unh unh unh unh ahhh!"

True story: that is the actual reply that Murry gave to a ten year old Brian who asked about the birds and the bees.

Eh, nobody, what is it with you that makes you ponder Murry and sexuality so much?

Aaaahhhh... the use of the word "adoption" as we in Europe understand it in this context is possibly somewhat misleading. Both Daria and Delanie have the same biological mother, and I think I was once told that Dylan does too. Remember, they all came to Melinda & Brian at a very, very early age. Any inference that anyone might draw from this information could well be correct. Allegedly.

I don't understand all those adoption rules. So many morons have and raise kids, in turn creating more morons, without anyone stepping in, so what's the deal with adoption? Same goes for any possible abuse type situations. Sometimes (most of the time) I don't think just anybody should be allowed to have kids in the first place. The worst thing is when young people have kids before even figuring themselves out and then turn into their parents and raise themselves. It's like a big cycle of unconsciousness never ending.

Carnie posed for Playboy a year or two or so ago. I hope Brian never saw them. He reads Playboy sometimes.

Actually, that was back in 2003. In Beautiful Dreamer, Brian mentions that he was caught off guard by something he saw in a Playboy issue...could've been Carnie.

On the subject of Brian's kids and in the fashion of my awesome "Here's A Mystery" thread: why is Wendy so hot and Carnie so... not?

I think Carnie is gorgeous. I actually think she's the prettier of the two--not that it matters.

I wonder if Carnie or Wendy ever dabbled with drugs or if their father's life made such an impression that they avoided them.
