Amen to the mono mixes.  I'm going to put those back in the rotation.

Her's an interview with Ernst Jorgensen about this release:

a diseased bunch of mo'fos if there ever was one… their beauty is so awesome that listening to them at their best is like being in some vast dream cathedral decorated with a thousand gleaming American pop culture icons.

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

This year I got to attend my 2nd Elvis Week.  I still can't believe it, but I got Chips Moman, Bobby Wood, Gene Crisman, Reggie Young, Mike Leech, & Bobby Emmons to sign "From Elvis In Memphis:" the 40th anniversary deluxe ed. talked about here.  Songwriter Mark James also signed it.

This is about the only time I've heard of Chips attending an event like this.  He had a stroke last year I believe, but he was still able to talk & walk around.  The local Memphis Grammy chapter finally acknowledged Chips & the Memphis Boys (mentioned above) for their contributions to Suspicious Minds with awards.

Also, I'm happy with the deluxe release.  It really made me think of the presentation used in Dennis' POB last year.  In other words, very classy, informative, & full pics of the original album/single sleeves, though I wish they had also included the stereo versions of the singles along with the mono versions for convenience/comparison sake.  There was enough room to do so.

If you didn't get From Elvis In Memphis, I would try to find the 1999 2-cd Suspicious Minds release.  It also featured all the songs recorded in January & February 1969 sessions @ American Sound, all in stereo, along with about a dozen outtakes (aka alternate takes) that stripped the songs down to their essentials:  Elvis & the American sound musicians.
