OK, then.

Billboard, August 2nd 1952, carried a special supplement celebrating the 10th anniversary of Capitol Records, and on page 77 of same there's a rundown of the branches of the company. In the Dallas entry is this:

"The promotional interest is reflected in the background of the present branch manager, Richard Rising. Tho' trained as an accountant, he became a New Orleans radio announcer in 1947, then manager of a wired music service. He went on to do promotional work, and eventually selling, for the Capitol distributor in New Orleans before taking the Dallas managership in 1952".

 Grin

I knew you would pull through.  I think the question of Mr. Rising has been laid to rest.  Now Andrew, how about the where abouts of Mr. Mojo Rising?  Evil

taley ho!

Funny you should ask - I spoke to Herve Muller about Jimbo, oh, over 25 years ago. His reply was "there's no mystery about him being dead - he is... the real mystery is how he died".

And it's "tally ho", old bean.  Pip pip, what ?  Smiley

I think this whole Dick Rising is limp . It's hard to provde proof that stands up! The subject has climaxed and can now be inserted into the laid to rest file.

Not in the hotel bath - not in the hotel, period. It's old news now, but back then, went totally against the prevailing wisdom.

I found the Dick Rising thread to be, in the whole, a most penetrating one.  I've enjoyed the thrust of the discussion.

Especially when brought to a satisfactory climax.

This internet thing is just shameless, isn't it ?

Actually, I don't exist either.  Shocked

I was never sure 'til now, because no one has claimed responsibility for you, although Mike Love says the hat was his idea.

On the other hand, I hear there was this album called Remember The Zoo....

 LOL

I remember reading (this might not be true) that they took pieces of the full recording Bull Sessions for the album, and what remains of it is what's on UM.

For those of you with kids, I think it's best that you don't tell them about Andrew.  In times like these, children need something to believe in.

Besides, he's real in our hearts.

I sometimes tell my daughter that if she doesn't behave the AGD will come along in the night and disprove her existence.

The "Cassius" Love & "Sonny" Wilson vs. Big Daddy sessions, that would be the real mother lode/Holy Grail. We would all stand erected if that was ever dug up from the vaults. Shocked

We interrupt this thread for an important message;

Every time this comes up (damn those puns) I recall a discussion of double phallic. ultramacho, or just plain silly suggestive  names.

Real people of note;

Dick Trickle
Woody Johnson
Peter O'Toole
Dick Army
Dick Hyman
Peter Gunn
Peter Boyle
Peter D. Beter   (look it up,  he ran for governor of WV back in the 60's)
Red Peters (broadcaster)
Harry Bush (artist and illustrator)
Harry Johnson  (a very common name)
Peter North

and of course, the one and only Seymore Butz  Razz

and now, back to the discussion of the bull session....

I knew---no joke--a Texus oilman by the name of Richard Mann...and you know what he went by?

Pause for laughter.

Dick Cavett used to tell how Groucho Marx, a celebrated correspondent as well as great comedian, would often add irreverent postscripts to his letters, and once added a P.S. at
the end of one letter "Did you ever notice that Peter O'Toole is a double phallic name?"

A little redundant after the last post, but funny at the time. Smiley

Still hoping for those complete Big Daddy Bull Session sessions to surface. Undecided
