Little Milton - If you talk in your sleep

Very cool version of this Presley-classic

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Levon Helm's Electric Dirt. What a fantastic album. I'm only a moderate fan of The Band, having their first three studio albums plus their stuff with Dylan. And while I had his Dirt Farmer album, I can't say I cared much one way or the other about it. But this album is extremely good. Larry Campbell did a great job producing, and Levon's voice is wonderful, reaching that pinnacle of broken beauty that the likes of Waits or modern Dylan inhabit.

And--here and there--is it funky!

The New Pornagraphers "Mass Romantic." I'm only about halfway through it and it's damn good so far!

Just bought the new, long overdue Emitt Rhodes collection: "The Emitt Rhodes Recordings (1969-1973)".

His four solo albums (plus the single "Tame The Lion") on two CDs.

Fantastic stuff.

"Praises" - HumanLab

One of my favorite songs of the summer. It makes me want to lie out in the sun and relax.

McCartney's Chaos & Creation in the Backyard, which I had back when it came out, listened a few times and dismissed as too obviously nostalgic and self-imitative. But I'm really enjoying it now. Maybe I'm getting old, either in a good or a bad way. Or maybe I've killed a few more brain cells.

Before this, Living Colour's Stain, McCartney's Memory Almost Full and Elvis Costello's Kojak Variety (all of which I bought used today for a total of about $13).

In keeping with McCartney, I don't know if anybody has been watching VH1 Classic, but they've been featuring a lot of Beatles for the past two weeks - movies, documentaries, concerts.

It prompted me to get out a couple of my favorite Beatles' CD's, A Hard Day's Night and Help. Damn, they're so great....

and now 2012: Ascension Harmonics by the same guy

this one is actually great, i don't know what to compare it to. it's not new age space/spiritual music or minimalist drone ala la monte young but it's one sustained note, i think a C# that has a constant motion to it, with tibetan bells occasionally gliding across the surface of the overall ocean of the sound

i listen to this more than everything these days. i have an ipod shuffle and before going to sleep i load this track (71 minutes) on it about seven times and then put it on at a low volume. i listen to it before meditating, sometimes during, and after. i sent it to someone i was corresponding with about meditation with a note that "this should set the mood well". it must have scared him because he never spoke about it again. it has a very impersonal sound to it, i guess. it would make a great companion for sensory deprivation activities.

my experience of music is that it is not a harmless entity. when i hear ugly music it's like being in polluted air, i have to get away. i generally don't listen to anything that encodes ignorant feelings into its sound. this particular album gives the impression of being beyond the pure and impure of music. it's not really sit down and listen to this album sort of stuff. it's to help induce a meditative state of mind. it sounds amazing played loud on speakers although i rarely get the chance.

if you listen to it based on my lengthy rambling, i recommend putting it up loud with the bass turned up, lights dimmed or turned off entirely, and with a free 71 minutes. you won't feel the same as when you went into it.
