John The Wolfking Of L.A, by John Phillips. Classy 70's country rock, which is my new crack these days.

Gram Parsons - isn't he deceptively amazing? Have been sitting on Return Of The Grevious Angel for months and suddenly it clicked this evening. Fantastic!

Most of this week I've been listening to MEMORIES OF LOVE by Future Bible Heroes, a Magnetic Fields off-shoot. Melodic and sardonic electro-pop. One track, "Real Summer", gently name-drops and chides the Beach Boys for creating an unattainable, perfect version of summer that the real season can't possibly live up to.

On a late period Rutles kick- Sgt. Rutter, Tragical History Tour, Let It Rut, Yellow Submarine Sandwich, Shabby Road... Also digging some of Dirk`s Punk Floyd stuff. Those Garcons Du Plage were pretty good, too-I think Stig played drums on a couple of their early 70s records.  LOL LOL LOL

Been on a week long Beach Boys binge. Just made a Holland/Carl and the Passions playlist. Been listening to Surfin' USA album constantly.

Listened to the new Coldplay single 'Moving to Mars' - great song. Also been listening the hell out of The Doors lately.

And after a week without my stereo I'm reinstalling it tonight and will crank up Good Timin' - Live at Knebworth.

The bacchanalian orgies, opium smoking, gunfights and the pet bear might have something to do with it, sure, but you can't be too sure.  Grin

Just ate dinner feeling incredibly heroic because I'd put on Holst's The Planets, which starts with this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NeQ1h6lzLI

Damn right they are! I've always maintained that she, alongside Brian, is one of the true geniuses to have emerged out of the pop mold. Totally idiosyncratic, ecstatic, profound music, such incredible breadth of expression. Gonna put on Eli right now.

Was spinning New York Tendaberry earlier and getting a little bit sad.

Now I am listening to Spiritualized's Let It Come Down, a transcendentally beautiful, powerful album.
