What are some interesting examples of The Beach Boys/related being sampled in modern music?
I can think of, um
"Do it Again" in "Remember" by Air from Moon Safari
"Cool, Cool Water", "Johnny Carson", "Matchpoint of Our Love" and others in various mixes by The Avalanches (I got into the Beach Boys through Cool Cool Water, strangely enough)
"Don't Worry Baby" in "Push It" by Garbage (sorta.. she asked brian for permission anyway)
The J. Dilla vs. Pet Sounds mashup album.. SO GOOD

I dont think they sampled Do it Again, anyone can put a retrig on the snare drum, and the groove isnt necessarily right. Besides the reverb on the drum beat doesnt seem to be there.

I adore that J.Dilla album. It's been in heavy rotation as of late.

Is "Lightworks" included in that Dilla mash-up album?

Mash-up guy Chris Shaw, a/k/a "CCC", did a Sgt. Pepper album mashup in 2007 called "Cracked Pepper". In his mashup of "When I'm 64" which he calls "Hawaii 64", he uses the Blue Hawaii instrumental mix from BWPS and segues into "Cool Cool Water". He figured out that the principal theme from both tracks is musically the same song, and both tracks are in the same key and tempo. It's scary how well they both fit with Paul's pasted-in vocal from the original.

I was working a session for one of my buddies who just so happens to be a big Beach Boys fan. We looped the instrumental backing for God Only Knows (during the verses), slowed it down, and he rapped over it. It came out pretty sweet. I'll ask him for permission to post it.

Isn't it fantastic. It's like the equivalent of aural slash fanfic. A very unlikely hookup of two of my greatest loves.
