Live At Knebworth, In Concert & Good Vibrations Tour Questions
«
on:
October 16, 2007, 09:31:33 AM »
I have a few questions about some of the live releases.
Firstly, on Knebworth how much is overdubbed? I just have read that some things are overdubbed in the studio such as on Darlin' only Carl's guitar and his lead vocal haven't been tinkered in the studio.
Secondly, on
In Concert
(note: NOT
Concert
) do we actually know when each individual track was taken from? I know it may be impossible to tell but is there atleast some that we know of?
Lastly, on the Good Vibrations Tour DVD, where and when was the concert footage taken from?
Thanks in advance.

The Good Vibrations Concert Tour DVD footage was lifted from the 1976 Lorne Michaels produced BB's TV special which aired nationally in Aug. 1976. The concert was filmed at Anaheim Stadium July 3, 1976.

What I would like to know is, did Dennis participate in the studio overdubs? Or was it all done by Bobby Figuroa?

There's some
horrible
auto-tuned on much of Mike's vocals. Having heard the undoctored recordings myself, I have to ask, why bother?

Yeh I have heard the original recordings and I think they are fine. I prefer them over the doctored recordings, which can in cases sound fake.. which is exactly what they are of course...

Actually, I think the info on what was and wasn't replaced has been confused: in the liners to the "Endless Harmony Soundtrack", where the Knebworth version of "Darlin'" appeared, it said that what was replaced were the group background vocals AND Carl's lead guitar, but not his lead vocal. It doesn't make sense for everything else to have been redone, so I'm sure the drums, bass, and other rhythm instruments are intact. Probably just SOME of the background vocals and SOME of the lead guitar were redone here and there. And maybe some of Mike's lead vocals. And that's all pretty typical for live recording "post-production".

That would make sense.. They sound fine.. its mainly the backing vocals that can sound strange at times

Especially Bruce on the EH version of "Darlin'", as an example.

Somebody on YouTube made a comment that supposedly Brian's intro to In My Room at Knebworth messed up the group's timing. Is that true?
