I recently had the pleasure of speaking with Steve Lewis for two episodes on his terrific The Beach Boys Basement youtube channel.

Here is a link to Part One. Part Two will drop next Thursday. If the spirit moves you, please leave a comment or question.

Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy it. And, yes, I was fully caffeinated. Just wind me up and  . . . .

Jim

Excellent stuff, Jim...the caffeination was a good thing! Wink Very much looking forward to Part Two...

BECOMING THE BEACH BOYS is easily one of the five best books about the band and is essential for everyone who becomes enamored with their music.

Steve Lewis is making some savvy choices in terms of the guests he's bringing onto his excellent YouTube channel.

Anyone who's not visited Jim's "companion" site for the book needs to click this link ASAP:

Lots of extra material there, all of it informative and highly enjoyable--just like the book.

I just got through watching both parts. Enjoyed it very, very much. Thanks for the heads-up!

Re: Surfin' USA:

Do we know who wrote and re-wrote the lyrics for the recording? Brian sings a couple of alternative lines on the demo. I've heard different claims of who helped with the lyrics. Dennis was mentioned either in "Brian's" first book or the two-fer liner notes, Mike was mentioned by himself and Carl IIRC and of course Judy's brother also gets named.

a diseased bunch of mo'fos if there ever was one… their beauty is so awesome that listening to them at their best is like being in some vast dream cathedral decorated with a thousand gleaming American pop culture icons.

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.
