Are there any photos from the actual Party! sessions?
(Not counting those taken for cover photos)

They're all from that same session as cover photo.
I'm looking for photos from the recording session (the album was recorded in 4 sessions and the party sounds was overdubbed on a 5th)

There are plenty...for instance, the shots where Brian is wearing a white cap and the white terry-clothish overcoat thing, Mike is also wearing a cap and a striped t-shirt. The shot where they encounter Spector and the Righteous Brothers in the hallway is from that session. There are shots from more than one session, with Carl and Al playing acoustic guitars, Bruce and sometimes Brian playing bass, Dennis on bongos, Hal in the background...

I believe these are from the Party sessions; there are more out there from this, but definitely from 1965. I really love these pictures from this time. Brian just seemed to be firing on all cylinders and the guys were just kicking ass during this time (Today-Summer Days) While Party has some weak songs, there is still some magic there (Devoted to You, There's No Other for me)

Yep, those are all Party session photos! The ones where Brian sports longer hair, the cap and the terry-cloth thing are from a different session, a month or so removed, but still a Party session.

Just for fun, let me add these (not all from the actual sessions as was mentioned):

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

The red head next to Bruce; I'm assuming that's Deirdre? Cheesy

Funny how both of those pics of Brian with Phil Spector (the only photos of the 2 of them together that exist, at least in that era, as far as I know) always have 1 of the 2 of them looking off; either Phil is out of focus looking like a demon, or Brian was awkwardly captured mid-blink in the 1 pic where Phil looks good  LOL

Just for fun, let me add these (not all from the actual sessions as was mentioned):

That is a great picture of Dennis. I think they all look great around this time, something not always guaranteed in future group pics

Yeah, well it's so cool to hear the studio chatter from these sessions - you realize just how NORMAL they all still were! Sadly, that would begin to change within a couple of years...

Wish they'd taken photos of more...musically consequential sessions.

Brian is wearing the same clothes in the Spector photo as he is in the Party session photo of him at the piano (looks later, to me).

These are all in studio 2, right? Odd that Brian used 1 & 2 so rarely in all his years recording at Western.

Very rarely.  I have a theory that Guess I'm Dumb was Western 2, but otherwise I can't think of any session outside of Party that made it outside of Studio 3 over there.  Interesting he never really used United, too.

Mark once said Punchline was done over in 2, and I remember there being reason to believe the April '62 demo reel basic tracks may have been done in studio 1 because of something Chuck Britz said (maybe). It's a weird, tiny list. Guess I'm Dumb wasn't on my radar!

As well as the '65 Dick Reynolds stuff and '68 Honeys single at United, there was a You're With Me Tonight outtake supposedly done at Western and United in the same day, so maybe harpsichord track at Western and vocals down the street? Unless it's a misprint. That's the only other one I can think of. I got back into Lewisohn Beatles recently and it's an interesting contrast to them hopping all over EMI depending on which room was free.

The way the trumpets hit off the wall on Guess I'm Dumb doesn't sound like 3 to me.  Plus it's a lot of musicians.

Nice to see Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Brothers in one of those photos, with Brian, Mike, Phil Spector and two other unidentified men. Bobby is on the right.

I think that's Steve Korthoff, and definitely Ron Swallow.

Possibly Mike's - there were reports at the time, or perhaps years later, that they had actually recorded some of the album there (which of course is not true). I think Marilyn had stated that. She may have been remembering the photo shoot.

I noticed in the "party" photos Al has a really thin-necked instrument in one and a 12-string in another. What's the thin one?
