Sounds great! That song always sounded better live. Brian truly does enjoy listening to Al sing still after all these years.

I saw Brian this evening at the Fair in Fresno, California.  I have previously seen him about 3 years ago at two different venues.  I have to say, Brian just seems simply tired.  During the Pet Sounds album, he was missing vocal cues left and right, and after coming in two beats too late, he'd try to compensate by making up his own melodies and sometimes making up words.  In my head, I heard a young Brian yelling at session musicians, "You missed your cue at letter A!"

The band was fantastic as usual, did a great job, but even they seemed a bit tired.  The lady in front of me had her phone up, and was googling "Brian Wilson health".  Below the search box, google suggested other related search terms, and among these was "Is Al Jardine Dead".

Speaking of Al, he certainly wasn't dead.  His voice sounds like 1965.  What a strong singer.  His son Matt also kicks ass.  Unfortunately I noticed that even the top of Brian's normal (not falsetto) range is gone, and Matt is covering for him.  It wasn't this way when I saw him 3 years ago.  Blondie sang Wild Honey and Sail On Sailor, both with long extended guitar solos.  He was prancing all over the stage during his solo.  My girlfriend remarked that he has moves like he's a member of the Rolling Stones.  I'll have to explain all that later to her.

The show opened with Blondie singing a very short version of "River Deep Mountain High", which was unexpected.  It closed with "Love And Mercy", a really emotional touch given the state of the world lately.  This was my first Brian show where this song was the closer.  It's a very different way to end a show, as most bands go out on the most exciting piece of music they can conjure.  This was almost like the end of a church service, a way of sending us all out in a peaceful positive state of mind.  I loved it.  It was the best part of the show by far for me.  Even if Brian was making up some of the words on the spot.

That has to be one of the more depressing things I've read on this board.

Video of "Susie Cincinnati" from 10/6:

https://youtu.be/zqgwj7mWPNA

Al sounds great!

They did drop the key as I would have expected. Sounds great.

It's so cool that they added this.  Sounds fantastic.  I love this song and only wish I could have seen it live.  I live in hope for another tour that will continue to feature some of the less obvious cuts.

"Barbara Ann" was cut last night. Unfortunately, it was simply due to a sound curfew:

I was at the last show in Costa Mesa Ca.. OUTSTANDING show the best of the 3 ive seen this year.. yes BW look tired and with the heavy touring last couple of years his voice is blown out.. he needs a nice long rest to save his voice.. al and matt sang more leads on PS part of show ..  I looked at the set list from previous message and they didnt do SD  LDC YSGM LHRW.. for the life of me i cant remember what they played instead.. the whole show without intermission was about 2hr 15 min..  and yes BW enjoys the 1st set alot..the new WH songs and susi cincinati were GREAT..!! Probyn is playing a strat 12 string.. fender doesnt make a strat 12 string to my knowledge. so who made it i do not know.  the female that played keyboards was excellent.. she sang played and danced the whole show. also she was grinning from ear to ear the whole show.. she REALLY loves playing in the band and was a joy to watch.  now Blondie is another matter.. he should take his LEAD guitar playing more seriously.  i know he isnt al dimeola or a jeff beck or clapton but he does play well.. on this tour his solos consisted of double picking the e + b string up and down the neck and it sounded like freakin NOISE..  a terrible noise.. very disapointed  Blondie..!! the band was  HOT as usual with LOTS of energy.. overall a GREAT nite of music.. hey Brian go home and rest your voice and it will come back.. GOD bless BW and his band.. and thanks for the MEMORIES..

Updated the top post with the rest of the available setlists from the last leg of the tour. There are still a few gaps in available setlists (including a few on the last leg), so if anyone knows of one, feel free to mention it here and/or link to setlist.fm.

I've also started a 2018 tour thread for any potential dates (there are three so far), which is linked at the bottom of the top post in this thread and can be seen here:

http://smileysmile.net/board/index.php/topic,25544.0.html

I'll also of course add any dates to this thread if any more 2017 shows materialize.

Thanks for keeping this thread going all year, HeyJude!

Great setlist from CA. Susie Cincinnati/Let the Wind Blow/I'd Love Just Once To See You/Aren't You Glad is a pretty amazing string of deep cuts.

If they had to cut anything, I'm glad it was Barbara Ann.

a diseased bunch of mo'fos if there ever was one… their beauty is so awesome that listening to them at their best is like being in some vast dream cathedral decorated with a thousand gleaming American pop culture icons.

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Fender did make a 12 string Stratocaster for a few years ('85 to '96 and reissued from '05 to '09)

They also made a 12 string Telecaster for a short time.

There are also about a ten billion Strat/Tele, etc. clones out there. Custom necks/alternate necks can also be added on.

Carl's latter-era 12-string, as I recall, is an Epiphone Riviera with a Gibson replacement neck.
