Brian's just as heavy, you know, sometimes far more. Ya feel that way about him?

I never make fun of fat people. They have one large advantage over everyone else -- They've much more comfort in sitting that boney-ass thin people do!

Foskett lost over 100 lbs., he's thin now. So I'd like to know if he donated it to the Smithsonian, next to Brian's ear?

George Martin speaking about Brian and The Beach Boys.
What is this from?
It pisses me off that while speaking of Good Vibrations, they play the "new" recording of it.
To comment on George's speech, I find it a bit odd every time someone puts Brian up "there" with Mozart and all those people. I don't doubt Brian's talent, but I think we're stretching it a little bit to call him a person of Mozart's talent.

This is from the Tribute to Brian Wilson concert. I agree about the "new" GV playing. I hated that about the SMiLE documentary of having Brian's band play "California Girls" while they were talking about Brian making Pet Sounds instead of the Beach Boys version, but that's probablly due to paying certain people if they had the original versions in there-wink wink

To tell you the truth I've never listened to classical music. When I have some extra dough I'm going to buy the Glen Gould CD 'Goldberg Variations'
But anyway, why wouldn't Brian be in the same league as the classical composers?

If I didn't use Rhapsody I'd have never heard ANYTHING. Simply do not have the money to run out buying everything I would like to hear!
I listen to a reasonable amount of classical music. Some of it is touching, beautiful, staggering, astonishing, etc. While some of it is pure wankery, akin to a dude with long hair shredding on his red guitar.
I don't doubt that Brian is very talented -- but people put him on this level for some reason. Maybe it's because we have nothing or nobody else to put up "there", so we put Brian up there. Or we put Paul Maccartney up there, etc. Remember that poll or newspaper thing that claimed Paul to be a musical genius or something? Well if Paul's a music genius -- I'm an 11 legged frog!
I find Pet Sounds to be an excellent selection of songs, beautifully produced and recorded. It's easy to overestimate Brian's talents when you put him against the Beatles (Or any other rival group of which he's often compared). Because the Beatles were doing big productions to simple songs (with some exceptions) whereas Brian was doing both at once. If Brian and Bach had a boxing match -- with no interference from a ressurected Murry, an irate Mike Love, or an extra chubby Carl Wilson -- Bach would win without breaking a sweat.

Anyone remember the classical inspired Simpsons episode? It was GREAT.

I'd recomend some Claude Debussy to you. His music means more to me than many other artist's music. His is so beautiful, easy to comprehend, immediatly accesible, though it leans more to jazz sounds than typical classical music like Bach if that's what you were going for.

One of my favorite Debussy piece's as a midi.

I've actually never even heard of Holst, I'll have to look into that.
I've listened to a bit of Stravinsky, not enough to make any significant comment on it. I tend to get 'locked in' on a certain thing and form a bubble round my ears with it, unfortunately not experiencing as much as I'd like to otherwise.
I was having a discussion about classical music with my friend the other day. He claims very stubbornly that all classical music is boring as heck. My interpretation into his stance is that because he's a drummer he subconsciously views songs by their beats. He linked me to,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5rk6W3eo_w
the new Muse single. I enjoy a lot of Muse songs, particularly the heavy piano peices, but this song is like Britney Spears-Dandy Warhols-typical 2006 MTV rock. The discussion went nowhere, we're both as ignorant and as stubborn as each other.

How is John Stamos such great friends with Mike Love? Someone posted some pics recently of a party at John Stamos house and Mike Love & Bruce Johnston were partying and singing there.
Hmmm. I thought Landy wouldn't let Brian participate in Kokomo? It's too bad Brian still has to be humiliated singing Kokomo on 'Full House' no less.

He was their drummer in the 80's for some gigs before he got big. I have an old tape my dad recorded of an early Stamos sitcom "You Again" where his character auditions as a replacement drummer for the Beach Boys.

Those shows make it seem like it's quite fine to be a moron.
But still, it seems much funnier with the voice over work in japanese.

Man, Mike's speaking parts are HILARIOUS with that voice over. HILARIOUS.
Brian and Carl look pretty annoyed at the bullshit they are doing there.
