So I've made a few playlists based off of my favorite/the biggest singles/album tracks per year, particularly the decade of the 60's. I tried to manage it somewhat chronologically by single/album release but there are some exceptions for sequencing reasons. Keep in mind that exclusions had to be made per CD length (edit: it seems I may have messed with my itunes since because some are not to the capacity of a full CD)  and feel free to add to said lists or make your own:

I have a 1967 but I thought I'd start with the best, as well as it being designed for 2 CD's so it's much longer. Will post later with some other years if this thread even gets off the ground.

1. I Am A Rock - Simon & Garfunkel

Oy, this song sounds like it was torn from the pages of Simon's notebook when he was a sad sophomore in high school.
And those last two lines! Can someone go back to 1965 and open the blinds in Simon's apartment, please?

I miss that last thread you made that had us ranking albums. We never got far with that one.

Hah - I agree. I believe it was the first 'emo' song. Love it, though. And yeah, I had wished that thread would've gone a bit further. Here's to this one.

2. "Make It Easy on Yourself" by The Walker Brothers
3. "California Girls" by The Beach Boys
4. "Like a Rolling Stone" by Bob Dylan
5. "Till the End of the Day" by The Kinks

1966
1. "One of Us Must Know (Sooner or Later)" by Bob Dylan

5. "Who Are the Brain Police?" by The Mothers of Invention
6. "Here, There and Everywhere" by The Beatles
7. "Papa Gene's Blues" by The Monkees
8. "April Come She Will" by Simon & Garfunkel

I had to extend my list a bit for 1966, but 1967 is where my music collection really starts to open up.

Nice. "Speedo" led me to the Physical Graffiti soundrack, which I've heard of but never checked out. Exactly what I was seeking!

And speaking of Frank Sinatra, almost totally unrelated, is anybody a fan of Watertown? It's an unheralded masterpiece.

In the version by The Flamingos? There are times when I'd probably say so.

Damned if it isn't one of those times right now. Grin

Great list there, yonderhillside, plus some splendid additions by the Sheriff.

I'd like to add the following (maybe more later):

"Twenty Flight Rock"----Eddie Cochran
"Matchbox"----Carl Perkins
"Slow Down"----Larry Williams

Yes, definitely The Flamingos' version. It's mindblowingly hip and ahead-of-it's-time-yet-of-it's-time.

A couple of additions:

- The Jackson 5 and The Carpenters had some great songs in 1970
- Layla (the album) was released in 1970 but the single only charted in 1972, which is when I remember it

How are you going to edit that list ^ to a single CD? Grin

Haha I'm not really using CDs anymore. It was a bit of a phase when I got tired of my ipod. But now I'm back to using it. I plan on adding to the previous playlists as opposed to dwindling this one, using you folks' additions. In regards to "Lola" - I considered using her but after discovering their recently released outtake "Anytime" I found it to be a quintessential 1970 sounding recording. Though I suppose it's cheating because I didn't really use outtakes for any other groups. I made 1971 the other day will post it a bit later.
