Title: Best Songs By Year Post by: yonderhillside on February 20, 2016, 07:04:03 PM So I've made a few playlists based off of my favorite/the biggest singles/album tracks per year, particularly the decade of the 60's. I tried to manage it somewhat chronologically by single/album release but there are some exceptions for sequencing reasons. Keep in mind that exclusions had to be made per CD length (edit: it seems I may have messed with my itunes since because some are not to the capacity of a full CD) and feel free to add to said lists or make your own:
I have a 1967 but I thought I'd start with the best, as well as it being designed for 2 CD's so it's much longer. Will post later with some other years if this thread even gets off the ground. I Am A Rock - Simon & Garfunkel Oy, this song sounds like it was torn from the pages of Simon's notebook when he was a sad sophomore in high school. And those last two lines! Can someone go back to 1965 and open the blinds in Simon's apartment, please? I miss that last thread you made that had us ranking albums. We never got far with that one. Title: Re: Best Songs By Year Post by: yonderhillside on February 20, 2016, 08:47:28 PM Hah - I agree. I believe it was the first 'emo' song. Love it, though. And yeah, I had wished that thread would've gone a bit further. Here's to this one.
Title: Re: Best Songs By Year Post by: alf wiedersehen on February 20, 2016, 09:21:59 PM I think that thread might have stalled due to your absence.

It was a bit of a phase when I got tired of my ipod. But now I'm back to using it. I plan on adding to the previous playlists as opposed to dwindling this one, using you folks' additions. In regards to "Lola" - I considered using her but after discovering their recently released outtake "Anytime" I found it to be a quintessential 1970 sounding recording. Though I suppose it's cheating because I didn't really use outtakes for any other groups. I made 1971 the other day will post it a bit later.

Now that I've already burnt the CDs I'm adding to these lists, especially with youze guys' suggestions. So they're much appreciated. It can be time consuming going back and looking through the years, especially on these things that already consumed mega amounts of time. 1969 and 1973 coming soon.
Edit: Post-post additions to 1972: Willin' - Little Feat FDR In Trinidad - Van Dyke Parks Title: Re: Best Songs By Year Post by: Sheriff John Stone on March 09, 2016, 05:01:48 PM Ah, very nice. "Baby Blue" by Badfinger? :police: Title: Re: Best Songs By Year Post by: yonderhillside on March 09, 2016, 06:32:35 PM I first had "Baby Blue" but decided to replace it, I think, I cannot recall, due to the way "Flying" sounds with the over-all sound of the rest of the tracks. I suppose I wouldn't be too out of place having both tracks, huh. And both "School's Out" and "Smoke on the Water" and I may still add them, but I generally don't listen to those songs in a casual manner. I've always, more-or-less, leaned a bit more primarily toward the deeper cuts by artists.
