Shelter

Doesn't sound anything like a Beach Boys song.

Bill and Sue

(Personally, I really like this album. Bill and Sue is the only real clunker here, and even then mostly because it goes on for too long, it'd be better if it were shorter.)

On our way through this "backstage" maze, Bruce joined up with the group and said hello, singing "It Never Rains in Southern California" and joking with some of the older ladies. I'm not sure if they knew he was a Beach Boy or simply an enthusiastic elderly gay gentleman.

Shelter

Doesn't sound anything like a Beach Boys song.

Besides the hideous drums, it sounds a lot like late 60s BBs when they were going for a super poppy sound - Darlin', Breakaway etc.

Daybreak - rehashed Frankentune of 50's cornball elements with faux reggae-feel topped with a sappy acoustic-marimba-accoridion bridge to nowhere.

im not usually so critical - im just pissed tonight.  Razz

Hey Little Tomboy is creepy. Banging women by the pool is fun and conjures up warm summer thoughts a Beach Boys song should.

Ooh yeah, I forgot about Shelter - it's a particularly horrible song. I still hate Daybreak more though (although not by much...) TWGMTR starts well and ends well, but the entire middle section is seriously unpleasant.

Eric has a point about "Shelter" not really sounding like a Beach Boys track, but it's not as bad as a couple of others that do.  Or are supposed to.
Took me nearly a year to warm-up to this album.  Eventually I was able to put the auto-tune in the back of my mind and enjoy the melodies.  Some of the singing rises above it and feels real.  "Isn't it Time" sounded great last Winter - I Love the MIC single mix.  Especially when I'm up in the mountains with a fireplace going.  Good snuggle song.  The album starts off very strong, sags a bit in the middle, and closes strong.  That's the same one line review I've seen so often around here, and I have to agree.  It feels more like a Brian solo record, with Mike, Al and the others as guests.  Very hard for me to agree it's a real Beach boys album without Carl, but if you say so...I'll play.
Getting my Maxwell back out for this one:
Bang Bang  "Beaches in Mind"
I don't think too much about the beach when I listen to this record.  I always hit next when this one comes on.
