This is the way the world Ends. This is the way the world Ends. This is the way the world Ends.

Not with a bang, but a whimper...

At least until That's Why God Made the Radio came out, most of us assumed that this would be the Beach Boys swan song.

Stars and Stripes Vol. 1 is the twenty-eighth studio album by American rock band The Beach Boys, released on August 19, 1996 on River North Records. Produced by both Joe Thomas and Brian Wilson, Stars and Stripes Vol. 1 is a collaborative album with various country musicians. Despite its Vol. 1 sub-title, the album is the band's only venture into the genre of country pop music, and is the last studio album to feature founding member Carl Wilson who died in 1998.

I am not sure how difficult to find this album is; here is a link to a few of the songs. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8B292A4F2EA6E853

Round#4 - Long, Tall Texan with Doug Supernaw May 20

Well, Caroline No sounds like the original. No country twist to it like many of the others. It shouldn't have been included. The Warmth Of The Sun; Willie just ruined an absolutely beautiful song. Just god-awful!

In that vain then, the best country version of a Beach Boys song goes to Junior Brown.

This is unusual to see my 3 favorites in the final round. These are the only three tracks I actually listen to for pleasure (and not out of obligation because the word "Beach Boys" happen to appear on the album cover) from this album.

My vote goes to The Warmth of the Sun with Willie Nelson.

Caroline No (just because it's the only song that ACTULLY has a Brian Wilson "Production" feel to it, also it's not country so that's another reason I vote for it...lol.. and the harmonies at the end are great!!!)

Caroline No

the background vocals really sound great. they took one of their best songs and improved upon it, in my opinion. and Jimmy Webb's string arrangement is pretty damn cool too. i'm not crazy about Schmit's lead, but the guy can sing.

First time vote in this thread.

IMO TWOTS is the only song someone has covered which might be considered to equal or surpass a Beach Boys original. The original from 1964(?) is stellar, but the age and experience of a lifetime adds more to it and Willie manages to pull that off without it being cheesy or insincere.

Cudos to Willie for making that work. The album is almost worth owning just because of that effort.

Also, it's hilarious when Mike embarrasses himself when telling Willie how to sing it and he just utterly dismisses him in the politest way  Cheesy

Caroline, No

Not only is it one of the better compositions here, but the performance is tasteful AND it actually adds something new to the table with the backing vocals.  The Warmth of the Sun is also fairly decent, and would be my runner-up.  409 IMO is unpleasant, and it wasn't even that much of a song to begin with.

The Warmth Of The Sun with Willie Nelson.

Easily the best song off this ill-conceived album that unfortunately happens to be the last one with Carl.

Caroline No is excellent, love the added Background vocals. Warmth is very nice as is Don't Worry Baby and I can Hear Music. The rest not so much.

Hey Little Tomboy is creepy. Banging women by the pool is fun and conjures up warm summer thoughts a Beach Boys song should.

409? More like 3 (votes).

The Warmth of the Sun wasn't warm enough with only 6 votes to stoke the fire.

I am not sure how difficult to find this album is; here is a link to a few of the songs. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8B292A4F2EA6E853

And the winner, with 11 votes, of the 33rd Round of Beach Boys Survivor is...

Caroline, No with Timothy B. Schmit

Round#1 - Be True to Your School with Toby Keith May 14
Round#2 - I Get Around with Sawyer Brown May 16
Round#2 - Fun, Fun, Fun with Ricky Van Shelton May 16
Round#3 - Help Me, Rhonda with T. Graham Brown May 18
Round#3 - Little Deuce Coupe with James House May 18
Round#4 - Sloop John B with Collin Raye May 20
Round#4 - Long, Tall Texan with Doug Supernaw May 20
Round#5 - I Can Hear Music with Kathy Troccoli May 22
Round#5 - Don't Worry Baby with Lorrie Morgan May 22
Round#6 - 409 with Junior Brown May 24
Round#6 - The Warmth of the Sun with Willie Nelson

Thanks for playing everyone. This album turned out a lot better than I thought it would.

I did notice a sharp decline in votes as this contest progressed, but for the most part I'm satisfied at the outcome. I suppose I'm glad that Caroline, No won, to me though I would have put it as second.

Me too. But I have to say this Survivor has helped me to appreciate stuff more that I previously would have just written off.

Same here. Learned to appreciate some of the songs off this, and it is still a better album than SIP at least. Here is how I would rank it:

12. Be True To Your School.
11. 409.
10. Sloop John B.
09. Little Deuce Coupe.
08. Fun, Fun, Fun.
07. Help Me, Rhonda.
06. Long Tall Texan.
05. I Get Around.
04. I Can Hear Music.
03. Don't Worry Baby.
02. Caroline, No.
01. The Warmth Of The Sun.
