My Diane.

Okay, so a proper Dennis song never won. At least a song with a full Dennis vocal would be great!

Not to mention how this song blows everything else off this album!

You're forgetting about the next odd's and ends. He has Barnyard Blues and My Love Lives On in the round.

Oh yeah! I completely forgot!
So Denny still has a chance!

This has been a tough round for me, but not for the same reason Sunflower was...

My Diane:  heartfelt (if sometimes lazy) lyric, heartfelt vocal.  So why has this never grabbed me like it does others?  I don't know, but it just seems plodding to me.  It will win anyway, and it may well be the BEST song of the three.

Matchpoint of Our Love:  Nice melody and great Brian vocal that (almost) makes you forgive the clunky tennis metaphors.  Lyrically the bridge is as right to the point as "My Diane."  This would have fit right in the airwaves in '78 with groups like America and Starbuck.  Which makes it unremarkable production-wise.

She's Got Rhythm:  Brian's opening would-be Frankie Valli vocal still makes me wince all these years later, along with the disco lyrics.  But listening to it again, doggone it, it's kind of fun, and the chorus is catchy in the best kind of Brian Wilson way.

Of the three, the latter two would be my "favorites," so I'll go with the better vocal...

Matchpoint of Our Love

Never been a huge fan of Matchpoint despite the smooth vocal by Brian.  I like it better now then when i first heard it many years ago but it's still not in my top 3.

I really like She's Got Rhythm.. I dig the falsetto and the bit at the end "..never will forget her!" with the harmonies and everything.  Very catchy.

But..  gotta go with My Diane.  Emotional song and powerful performance by Dennis.  I'm sure Marilyn would've picked this one as the winner as well.

All my favorites have already been voted off, so I'll go with "She's Got Rhythm."

My Diane is a pretty okay song stymied into a plodding borefest because of the production. That rough mix that may or may not be doing the rounds shows it could have been a lot more interesting. Hopefully one day this is given the MiC Rock and Roll Music treatment. That would probably result in the best thing to come out of the M.I.U. sessions, but as it stands, I've gotta vote for Matchpoint.

So, I just listened to M.I.U. Album for the first time.
Not nearly as bad as people make it out to be.

Anyway, "She's Got Rhythm" is great fun. It's def an ass-shaker.
"My Diane" is certainly a good song, and I like that Brian went off in this darker direction. Nice lead by Dennis, too.
However, when "Matchpoint of Our Love" came on, something inside me said "Oh, f*ck yes."

I will go with my gut: "Matchpoint of Our Love".

She's Got Rhythm. Brian's vocal doesn't sound pretty, but it's still a great, catchy song.

I'll admit it now, I love Matchpoint, and I am seriously glad it's in the finals.
But I still prefer My Diane, but honestly not by too much.

She's Got Rhythm is an awesome song to blast while driving on a summer day--can't explain it.

Matchpoint is the one of the most non-Beach-Boys-sounding songs in the canon, and they really pulled off the disco-feel.

But my vote must go to one of the only Beach Boys songs that can make me cry:

My Diane

(I freakin' love M.I.U., even though it has a number of duds on it.)

Hey Little Tomboy is creepy. Banging women by the pool is fun and conjures up warm summer thoughts a Beach Boys song should.

Remember to be respectful of others opinions. Please don't spam the thread with too much opinionating (a little is ok  :D ).... and without further ado...

Quote
"M.I.U. Album is the twenty-second studio album by The Beach Boys, released on October 2, 1978 on Brother/Reprise. Recorded during a fraught time for the band, only Mike Love, Al Jardine, and Brian Wilson appear consistently throughout the album, with Carl and Dennis Wilson audible on only a few tracks. Produced by Al Jardine and songwriter Ron Altbach, the album's title stems from Maharishi International University in Fairfield, Iowa, where the majority of the album was recorded.
Reflecting on the album in 1992, Mike Love noted, "It was too democratic. Everybody coming into it with their song, which is okay. It's like if you have an album and have a hit song on it, and it's very commercially viable. Doesn't it make sense to have another song that would also be commercially viable? And a third and a fourth."

Only 6 smilers figures that She actually had Rhythm.

11 Smilers were strung out on Match Point of Our Love.

But there can be only one.... with 18 smilers voting for....

My Diane
