Pretty safe to say that the BB bandmembers HAVE most likely heard the final, released versions of all songs in which they had some involvement in, whether it be writing, singing, etc.

But... it's fun to ponder what songs/albums that have been officially released have NOT been listened to by BB members.

Truthfully speaking, what do y'all think about the answers to these questions?

-Has Brian ever sat through and listened to the entirety of the "Summer in Paradise" album?
-Have any of the bandmembers (sans Mike) ever sat through and listened to the entirety of the Nascar album? (Or even 1 song from it)?
-Did Dennis sit through and listen to the entirety of both of Carl's solo albums?
-Has David Marks ever sat through and listened to the entirety of "BB85" and "Wild Honey"?
-Has Al ever sat through and listened to the entirety of "Looking Back With Love"?
-Has Bruce ever sat through and listened to the entirety of "GIOMH"?
-etc, etc...

Obviously, there are TONS of possible combinations of oddball BB/BB solo albums that band members likely have never sat through and actually listened to. We'll never know the true answers, but let's speculate.

It would also be interesting to hear what they said when they listened to the albums! Grin

Somebody:  "Brian that's Summer in Paradise the new Beach Boys album".

Brian:  "WTF!".

By the way, I like some of SIP.

I think Brian probably wouldn't hate "SIP" as much as most people do here. Of course I don't really know that for sure.

I do *love* the fact that Brian busts Mike's balls a bit on the 1989 campfire video where he brings up "Looking Back With Love", to Mike's supreme surprise/horror, almost a decade after the album came out. Surely the most obscure released BB product that any member has ever mentioned on camera, I would think. That is hilarious, and I suppose lends credence to the thought that Brian has actually listened to more oddball BB offshoot stuff than some might think he has.

He was also on that album I think.  I would also love those campfire sessions on an official DVD!

I just watched that on the video. He did reference that! Mike's like, "shhhhh". I love how off the cuff Brian can be, even then.

Too bad a live version of Summer in Paradise, an awful song, is placed on Made In California.  Another example of Mr. Love's poor choices.

IMO, that "Summer in Paradise" (song) live version isn't *too* terribly offensive, but it sure ain't great. The studio version of "Summer in Paradise" (song) with that loud, cheerful saxophone soloing, happening just as Mike sings the lyric "toxic waste", has to be one of the most bizarre dichotomies in the BB Universe.

There are better studio songs off SIP that could've been in its place on MIC, like "Lahaina Aloha" or "Strange Things Happen".

Back to the original topic, I would think that if Brian has heard a single song off SIP, it would be the "Surfin'" remake. And boy is that a stinker. Only Carl's vocals help take a tiny layer of awfulness away from the track. And he's probably heard the Uncle Jesse remake.

But I would be very surprised if Brian has ever listened to the entire SIP album from start to finish.

Didn't someone recently ask Bruce about the autotune on the album, and he responded like he hadn't heard it (the album)?

That's one of my favorite parts of the campfire show. He brings it up because they're talking about/performing Be My Baby, right?

My question is, have any of the guys heard Al's Postcard from CA? Besides the tracks they appear on like Brian on Drivin and Honkin down the Highway or Mike on Don't Fight the Sea? I feel like they have listened to Waves of love, or at least Brian has because it was being considered as a re-recording, right? Idk if it was TWGMTR or Brian's new album, I feel like Al suggested it and Brian declined on it.

Anyways, I also wonder if any of the guys have heard the Goin Public album.
I wonder if Mike has heard the whole album of That Lucky old Sun? I could see him being jealous of the product, it's the most Brian's product has ever sounded like the Beach Boys without the Boys.

The version you're talking about is likely the US version, which I never heard. Reading its lyrics and hearing the live version, I can't imagine it is any good. But check out the European version:

IMHO this is the best track the BBs ever did without Brian. I really like it (except McGuinn's vocal, although his guitar part is great) and I think this would have deserved a place on MIC.

Brian has likely listened to LOOKING BACK WITH LOVE but a full run through SUMMER IN PARADISE seems unlikely.

Whether Dennis listened to Carl's albums is an interesting question. I hope he made the effort as Carl seemed to like PACIFIC OCEAN BLUE. I bet Dennis never played KEEPIN' THE SUMMER ALIVE.

In 1981 Carl Wilson played the Roxy in Hollywood.. And Brian + Dennis were both there cheering him on.. I wasn't there but I read this in a couple of different places..  So if they hadn't heard the LP they certainly heard live versions of those songs..

I'd be mightily surprised if Denny sat down to listen to "Youngblood" all the way through, considering his condition the year of its release.

And perhaps Brian and Dennis heard better versions of Carl's solo material. Sometimes, I think his solo material is better played live. I've only really heard a few of Carl's songs played with the rest of the Boys in a concert rarities package...Rockin All Over the World, Heaven, and maybe What You Do to Me.
