This may have been discussed all ready, but is there any song that was only on a 45, not a 45 and LP?

The following single sides never turned up on a regular release album (but some did on compilations and/or soundtracks):
Luau
The Lord's Prayer
The Little Girl I Once Knew
You're Welcome
Break Away
Celebrate The News
Wouldn't It Be Nice (live)
Child Of Winter
It's A Beautiful Day
The Beach Boys Medley
East Meets West
Rock & Roll To The Rescue
California Dreamin' (both versions)
Lady Liberty
Wipe Out*
Happy Endings
Problem Child
[* - I know, but I consider it a compilation)

The single on 'Ode' Records.

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

Also, a live version of "Good Vibrations" was on the flip side of the Rock & Roll To The Rescue 12". Don't think that was on anything else, was it?

I'm almost 99% sure that's the Live in London recording of GV. Kinda lame they picked a 15 year old song. Why not a recent performance of GV, perhaps the 1980 Knebworth performance?

I guess this one counts as a compilation Lp?

soda. It is the only place where the live recording of "Runaway" has been officially released <<
and while I'm there, I bought this LP at a concert, with the Program; so technically not only bought with soda cans...

One more... the "cheerleader" version of "Be True To Your School".
I'd love to hear that in stereo one day... wonder if the multitracks still exist? Great arrangement.

Not a Beach Boys release.
Did that list off the top of my head, hence the omissions. Also didn't include different mixes.
If you check out the US discog on 10452, the full list is there -
underlined
= not on regular release album,
italics
= different mix to album version (single) or compilation (album).

yeah I know its not a 'beach boys' release..... but its a 'grey' area I reckon...
if Brian is one there, and Brian and Carl on the other..... must be pretty close addition...
to think of some other 'beach boys' songs.... have less involvement from the band members...
but I get your point AGD...... interesting thou, those Hite/Morgan sessions were not purchased and
'milked' through the Capitol tower........
just a thought..

Not in the US. Only on a Japanese sampler, I think. Wave FX on the fade.

Interesting point. IMHYWEO*...
Not strictly speaking 'released' - you got it with a Barbie doll, and yes, I did buy one - it's not a 45, and although it's credited to The Beach Boys, it's not, of course.

I think gxios meant that the single release of Sumahama as the b-side of It's A Beautiful Day is either a shorter or longer edit.
Same goes for Hey Little Tomboy (b-side Peggy Sue); that's a longer edit.
And if we talk about single mixes/edits that were not released on albums at all, or only on compilations
... on top of my head:
- Never Learn Not To Love
- Susie Cincinnati
- Cuddle Up
- California Saga-California
- if WIBN live 1971 falls in this category, then also the Wouldn't It Be Nice / Surfer Girl single versions from the In Concert (1973) album. It was released in Australia
... technically speaking is Barbara Ann a shorter edit of the album version, right?
... and there's probably many more I can't remember right now.

There's only one mix, one recording of the original, 1961 "Surfin'". The one that's on the Candix & X singles, and the first album. The album track was re-EQd and generally cleaned up some, but it's the same recording.

Not a new mix at all, any more than when someone here tinkers with a BB song and calls it a new mix. Did anyone go back to the original multitracks ? Nope.
If I take the released version of "WIBN" and speed it up 15%, is that a new mix ? According to you, yes.
Granted, I'm pretty sure that "Surfin'" was a two-track recording at best but even so, all Capitol did was tinker with the mono master.

The US 45 of Sumahama is mixed differently at the end- it's not an edit- I can't get to them now, but the difference is on one mix it fades with the vocals singing "Suma...Hama" over and over and the other just some "OOOH's".
