And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

2dellydel: that fat mayor looks more like a big brother of Esme from Babe & Babe 2: Pig in the City. I.e. the character, not the actress Magda Szubanski, because she wears glasses & has more official, non-village hairstyle. Idk, that's what association came 1st to my mind after seeing that image. Plus, "Babe" is one of my fave movies ever, esp. the 2nd one.

Canadians generally have lousier political candidates than America does, surprisingly. Case in point, this dead clown and the Social Justice Prime Minister himself, Justin "The Turd" Trudeau.

I'd welcome those from Toronto (or at least Canada) to clarify or correct me, but I believe Ford's popularity seemed to be a kind of conservative-leaning populism against what he considered increasingly encroaching big government and political correctness. (Nothing works in politics quite like convincing former or shrinking majorities they're being mistreated by [whoever].) Then--and this is just my pure speculation--I assume the circus around him was sufficient for some people, people who confuse celebrity with substance. (Any of that sound familiar to people in the U.S.A.?)

He had a kind of Donald Trump style appeal. He openly opposed what he would have considered to be PC culture and talked a lot about getting rid of the "gravy train" at City Hall in the name of helping out the taxpayer. That rhetoric is as appealing in Canada as it is in the United States, despite it so often being off-target, in my view.

Also, since the amalgamation of different towns, resulting in the Toronto megacity, there has been a battle between the downtown city and the outer regions who are opposed to mayoral candidates who concentrate and the former while ignoring the latter. The downtown core is often viewed as being culturally elitist, more arts-oriented, for example. Rob Ford quite seriously represented those outside regions of the city and portrayed himself as a kind of "everyman." Thus he was beloved outside the downtown core. For the outer regions, Ford represented their interests and was precisely the opposite of the kind of downtown Toronto character that they have such problems with.

Didn't see your post until after I posted, but as you can see, I agree with much of what you have to say here.

Always struck me as a ringer for Chris Farley, and not just in looks.

Yeah, I know I originally said Andy from According To Jim. I plead the Whitman Defence.
