Oh yeah.  For me, mostly music.  My day job (graphic artist) fulfills my visual arts needs.

Frustrated artist here. Graduated with a degree in music composition which I am now putting to good use as a paralegal.  LOL

Uh oh...I've been considering a degree in music, but it seems that it won't lead anywhere! Same with a degree in art.
The dream job would be touring as part of a backup band, Wondermint style  Grin

Graphic design would be cool...what's that like as a full time job?

The jobs vary greatly depending on what you want to do.  Think of all the stuff you see in your day... somebody had to design it.  And based on that, you can get some idea of what your work-day would be.  For example, if your work is to appear online, then working on Web and the technologies involved are key.  There's always a lot of undesirable aspects to any job, but some companies are becoming more and more flexible.

I do web design on the side - which includes a bit of graphic design.

I love to write/record music....my dream is to write music for theatre. I'm heavy into writing (nothing concrete yet, but many short stories, many 'sketches' for future stories). Currently collaborating on some photography projects with a friend - and also building/designing a website for those projects.

I used to paint a lot, but haven't since my last design class a few years ago. One of my favorite moments in the studio was when I was painting a master-study of Edward Hopper's Nighthawks: I was painting one of the guys at the bar, and the next thing I knew 6 hours had flown by and I had painted the guy into my own style: layers of colors and paint, even the way the guy is hunched over. It was my first real moment of enjoyment with a paintbrush.

I'm not an artist, but I've had artist friends Smiley  What always frustrated me about art, and still does, and made me never want to be an artist is that you can't make money, easily, at it.  I'd want to be an artist who got paid big bucks.  Art for the sake of 'that's what I like to do" is kind of selfish!  So... why not be selfish enough to want money for it ?

Brian Wilson agrees with me btw.

YES - but professionally only did mechanical paste-up (remember that?) for an ad agency

Wow, au bord! You have a real knack at painting, I liked "Landscape at Dusk with Seedling", also sleeve for a single "Openness and Honesty". "The Patio" is so lively, it's like a photograph. I got positive vibe just seeing those people smiling. Thanks for sharing!

But I also used to write horror stories when I was in like grade 2-3
Hey, me too! Though I never brought my stories to school, I wrote them for myself. Stopped because I lost creativity & realized that am not good at it.

I am a huge Beach Boys fan and a professional artist. I'm a graduate of the Pa. Academy of the Fine Arts in Philly
( so is David Lynch ) I often listen to Brian and the boys when I am working. If you enter my website their are ZERO photographs
on display. You'll see either my charcoal drawings or paintings.

A thumbs-up would have been handy right now. :=)

Anyway...

My humble contribution to the world of art (the one that survived anyhow) was made in (gulp) 1966 by the following means (this is how we did things back then):

First I covered a piece of hardboard with yellow paint. Then I added some largish black shapes, mostly around the edges. Then I laid the board down and emptied a can of fixative over it, the way painters do. Next, I left it out in the rain for a few days. And then what happens? There's a show of local art (add an f to that if you wish) at the village hall, with all this kitschy ducks-in-the-landscape kind of sh*t. My brother tacks on something resembling a frame and into the exhibition it goes. Guess whose painting is one of only two mentioned in the local paper? And described as beautiful to boot?

With grateful thanks to Swedish Frog for alerting me to the technology of uploading images directly to a website of choice.

Nice.  Grin

I attempted a FloriDada-inspired flash thingy about a month ago. Unfortunately what was supposed to be a mountainous landscape ended up looking like a pile of spaghetti, but still: http://tiredofthewaawaa.deviantart.com/art/Dip-yourself-into-583334700
