PLEASE BE SHORTNIN' BREAD PLEASE BE SHORTNIN' BREAD

So... Yardbirds catalog. What are the possibilities, ya reckon? Just the Beck era or For Your Love time?

I hope this is symbiotic and works great for both of them but I'm starting wonder if it won't be sort of neither here nor there for both of their bases and tanks. Fingers crossed I'm wrong.

I could see a good Al vocal on "You're A Better Man than I".

SO, I'm wondering, will David be playing his hits with the Marksmen, The Moon, Colours, etc along with his BBs?
What will Al be playing besides the BBs?

>>Wilson and Beck will be joined by Wilson’s Beach Boys bandmates Al Jardine and David Marks throughout the tour. The musicians will open each show by performing a string of hits with their respective bands. The show will then focus on eclectic selections from Wilson’s more than five decade career before Beck opens the second half of the concert by playing music from his solo career with a four-piece rhythm section. All four artists will then team up for the finale, when they will perform some of their favorite songs from their youth, as well as (for the first time ever) some classic Yardbirds material. <<

Houston Oct. 1!  Happy Dance    First time BW has been here since 2004 (as a solo)!  Thanks for posting, RPR!

Heads up for locals:  Bayou Music Center website says Houston tickets go on sale this Wed, Aug 28, not Aug 30.

I think Brian would sound great singing "Heart Full of Soul."  And maybe Al on "Shapes of Things."

I was a little confused by that wording too...are Al & David getting solo sets in addition to Brian & Jeff? I don't think that's a good idea...that makes everyone's times shorter and means more aiming to please type hits...

We'll probably get Be My Baby from Brian!

I would guess no on solo sets for all four of them. The ticket says Brian and Jeff. Al and David are essentially part of Brian's band, albeit members who will get some vocal turns (Al especially, and hopefully) during the show.

It's true, if they all had solo mini sets, then we'd either be in for a really long show, or really short full band sets.

It's a weird pairing, but if they cut some stuff together in the studio for the upcoming new album, that's probably where they will most strongly meld together during the show.

I know at this point that saying anything about "good press" or good word from "critics" makes some cry "elitist" or whatever, but this tour will probably get more "cred" in the industry than anything else Brian has done solo apart from perhaps "Smile." Jeff Beck, from what I gather, has escaped being pinned down by critics as a has-been classic rock icon just going through the motions. He has done some unique and less formulaic things in recent years. He's really unique. His music doesn't cry "Beach Boys" in the slightest, but he can also adapt his unique guitar artistry to more esoteric things, such as covering "Surf's Up" several years back, which I would rate as easily one of the best BB cover versions of all time that I've heard.

Most importantly, he "gets" Brian apparently. If he's made in=t through the awkwardness so far, cutting stuff in the studio and hanging out with Brian, then the upcoming tour if nothing else will not be an awkward pairing interpersonally.

Frankly, never in a million years would I have guessed I would see Jeff Beck and Al Jardine playing on the same sessions and same live tour. (Beck did appear with the BB's on stage at the R&R Hall of Fame back in 1988).

Yes and they have to have some of these dates professionally videotaped (and release a DVD hopefully)

I hope Beck's set is no longer than 30 minutes. I'll enjoy seeing him play, but I'm not there to see him.

I'm guessing they'll each do an hour, then have half an hour together. It's only fair...Jeff Beck has his fans, and it's a Co-Headlining tour.

This article is so poorly worded, it's hard to tell what's going to happen.

>>The musicians will open each show by performing a string of hits with their respective bands.<<

So, Jeff Beck opens up the show playing a string of hits with his band, and then Brian plays a string of hits with his band?  Or vica versa?  Okay.

>>The show will then focus on eclectic selections from Wilson’s more than five decade career<<

This I like...some eclectic selections from Brian's entire career.  Cool.

>>Beck opens the second half of the concert by playing music from his solo career with a four-piece rhythm section.<<

So Beck opens the second half with his band playing stuff from his solo career?  After an intermission maybe?

>>All four artists will then team up for the finale, when they will perform some of their favorite songs from their youth, as well as (for the first time ever) some classic Yardbirds material.<<

So, they all come together for the finale playing some cool old sh*t from their youth.  Got it.  Huh

I'm thinking this will be a much different show, with Beck, then the one I just saw down in A/C. I will say though, that the ticket prices for the Welmont show are very high, as opposed to the rather low priced Casino show(which was a really good show and value). I'm not a big Jeff Beck fan, and don't have a lot of interest in him, just saying tickets are very high priced, and it will interesting to see just how many sell, even in a relatively small intimate venue like the Welmont....I saw Brian there a few years ago, right up front, and it was a great show.

If the times on BW.com are indeed accurate, the entire show lasts two hours - 8-10pm.

Just got several tickets for our group for the Toronto show on 10/26.
We saw the Brian Wilson/Paul Simon tour several years back but this looks like a different type show/format.
Looking forward to it!

Perhaps a show split into three sections...45 mins each? Brian, Jeff, Together?...No real intermission maybe?

Not going out on a limb here, and no slight to Brian and HIS band, but I would expect Jeff Beck to blow away the audience with his musicianship.

And folk here wonder why I sometimes get a little irate. My post was #20. TWO POSTS EARLIER, Lost Art repeated from an article that Jeff, then Brian would each play a set of hits before some of Brian's more eclectic stuff is played, then Jeff opens the second half (intermission implied) with some of his (presumably similarly eclectic) solo stuff before all combine "to perform some of their favorite songs from their youth, as well as (for the first time ever) some classic Yardbirds material". Patently you didn't read this, otherwise you wouldn't have asked the question you did. It very badly presented but there have to be at least four sets crammed into about 100 minutes (allowing for a 20 minute intermission).

And breathe...  Grin

Moral of this tale - read the preceding posts.
