A complete preview of the 1972 "Help Me, Rhonda" performance in New Jersey.

Let the record show that I want a 3 or 4 disc 70s concert box for Christmas 2014!

Wow, Dennis sounds great.

And sonically, this sounds incredible. Can't wait to hear the rest of the live stuff on the box.

And did I hear Dennis call out Daryl Dragon's name at the end or am I hearing things?

Yep, it's called out right before the fade-out. For the Carnegie version, it's his "Captain Keyboard, Captain Keyboard" moniker that's called out. : )

Love this version. As someone else noted, very similar (virtually identical in places) to that noted Carnegie Hall performance from a few days later.

My best guess is that the performance from the In Concert album was taken from a 1973 performance, seeing it's more up-tempo than the 1972 versions we have thus far.

Is it possible that Billy played the piano solo on 11/19/72 at Capitol Theater, NJ & Daryl played the piano solo on 11/23/72 at Carnegie Hall, NY?  I guess not all that unusual, considering 3 different vocalists were rotating the lead on various nights.  I believe the "In Concert" version was recorded 8/19/73 at Nassau Coliseum, NY with Billy on "electric" piano solo, followed by a guitar solo (Blondie?)

This is a pretty decent production with some nice harmony vocals.  But all the lipstick in the world won't save this from still being a "so-so" song.

This just might be my new favorite Dennis vocal. After hearing this and Wild Honey, I really need to hear this complete concert.  Grin

Sexy packaging and book enclosed. BEARDS all over the place. Two posters here who have a conveniently available book writing extensive liner notes. BIG PHOTOS. Beards. The beards, everywhere! The sound of the beards!

I want an entire disc of different stages of their beards rubbing against microphones.
I would love a beard harmony.

Is this version "new" to fans? Was this show circulating in audience tape form? It's new to me.

Yeah, I think it's new to most of us.

Also, now we really have a proper Dennis lead from that time. He's a bit buried in the mix on the Carnegie Hall version.

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Very different from Uniondale 1974. Dennis' voice in 1972 still sounds "clean" to me. At least as clean as In The Back Of My Mind. Wish I had a clean Dennis version from all the 1972-74 tours he sang it on, we could really narrow down when his voice changed then.

If you listen to the 1973 Hartford gig, Dennis sounds like he was in the midst of a change in his voice. Within a year his voice had deteriorated further.

What is it about LA in the mid 70's that destroyed voices? Harry Nilsson, Dennis, Brian... who else?

I just cancelled my Amazon UK order and ordered it from Amazon DE because of this message.

I may have to pay 9 more dollars, but at least, instead of 24 days, it will arrive in 7.
