Love the back cover! Really looking forward to this release Smiley

I hope there will be hidden tracks again.

I'm guessing it would be a safe bet that there are a couple of hidden bits and bobs.  It's kind of a hallmark of Beach Boys archival releases by now.

The "from the vaults" disc could and should be so much better but man I'm so excited for this release.

I thought I remembered somebody posting a quote that seemed to indicate that Mike was recording a new vocal, or possibly even new lyrics. When I saw that picture of Mike and Scott Totten, I actually figured that maybe Scott was doing a guitar part for WIBNTLA, and Mike was just there to watch and give support or input.

100% wrong on both counts. So that's 200% wrong.  Grin
What was mike doing in the studio, then? I'm almost positive that somebody posted a twitter quote from somebody that seemed to confirm that Mike was working on Goin' To The Beach.

Wow... That looks fantastic. The design is nice and subtle, not something you see too often with Beach Boys stuff.

"Help You, Rhonda" on disc 6...Is that a typo or am I missing something?

So the '67 version of "Surf's Up" is different from the one on The Smile Sessions.

Hmm, interesting...

Where does it say that? The only thing I see written is "2012 mix".

That mix was done a year after TSS.

And there's an asterisk next to it which denotes "Previously Unreleased."

I'm still wondering about that Surf's Up... could it possibly be new? Man... that'd be a buzz!

A lot of record companies like to use the words "previously unreleased", to make something seem more interesting. Actually, it was technically unreleased...when it was recorded.  Grin Record companies can be tricky as hell with stuff like that.  Wink

What confuses me is: on the same disk they note that the Vocal Montage is from TSS....

Good observation! Perhaps it's another take entirely.

I'm interested in the I Believe In Miracles recording. It says it's a "vocal section". Does that mean it's not the complete song? Or is it the only thing that was recorded?

I don't think it is.  The reason I say Surf's Up is a different version than what was on The Smile Sessions is because not only does it say "2012 mix," but it also has an asterisk next to it which as I said, denotes that it has never been released prior to this collection.  The backing vocals montage has neither of these things, it's probably the same version.  Why they felt the need to put eight minutes of previously released material on this disc rather than two or three rarities, well, who knows?

Perhaps it's a 2012 mix of a version they considered for TSS, but scrapped in favor of another take?

I was referring to Surf's Up as the entirely different take.  Tongue
The inclusion of the backing vocals is odd, though.
Also, does anybody know what the "Carl Wilson: Coda" is?

Wasn't there a Carl coda on the Hawthorne set? It might be the same thing.

Wasn't Boyd's interview of how he and Mark found the January 1967 "Surf's Up part 2" session posted here? I swear we went through this weeks ago... Anyway, it's highly likely that "Surf's Up (1967 mix)" is either that part 2 session in the rough or a recreation mix which includes part 1.

I think AGD also once mentioned a vintage 1967 edit of Child Is Father Of The Man done by Brian as existing. You would think that this would have been the perfect time to include it. Unless the sound quality is to poor.

That mix was done a year after TSS.

they found Brian played it more than once during the WH sessions. Could be another take by him.
