WTF??? stereo Barbara Ann?? Is that really necessary?? Maybe in Guantanamo Bay, but not in my house...

OK, I admit it, I agree with this one. If I never hear Barbara bloody sodding Ann again, it'll be too soon. That one is going on skip when I play that disc back!

No Whisperin' Winds takes?? Argueably one of the most beautiful things ever composed by the maestro himself?? Criminal it's not here.

Ditto on Thank Him and The Beginning of the End

I'm Begging You Please would've been nice as well.

But again - you can have all of that stuff in, at the very least, *decent* quality. The Whispering Winds takes, in particular, are pretty darned pristine on the SOT. I'm Begging You Please is probably the roughest of these, but then the version I know of is a rough Brian demo - it probably doesn't GET much better than that, even if you go back to the source. Or is there some pro recorded version of the track that I've never heard of? (genuine question - if there is I would be interested, as I always thought this song showed great potential, but there you go. And also it's probably another one Brian would be embarrassed about releasing, as it seems to me pretty obvious that it's about the declining years of his relationship with Marilyn).

Thank Him and TBOTE I already posted about - again, I suspect the Boys are embarrassed by these songs, though I could be wrong.

Till' I Die sessions would've given me instant arousal...

Yeah, but maybe there isn't anything very interesting relating to that song in the vault. As soon as you go to eight or 16-track in any band's history, the likelihood of complete sessions being recorded including all of the work-in-progress takes gets less likely, unless the band ran a slave machine for the express purpose of documenting everything. New takes are often just made to the multitrack and erased with the next take if they didn't work out. That is easily forgotten in this modern, Pro Tools-driven, save-everything era.

These are not the bootlegs you are looking for.

The versions I have heard are decent enough, but not official SQ type stuff.

I'm super happy about Soul Searchin' and YSAM. SS would've been an instant hit, IMO.

Without those other tracks I mentioned, I'll live, always have. We are blessed with TSS and basic sound editing software.... 10 years ago I would've never even dreamed of having H&V mixed to my liking. A real blessing.

About Whisperin' Winds- people need to hear this. I can listen to this now, but people really need to hear this.

Alternate Meant For You is more exciting to me than WIBNTLA.

future archival releases.

One can hope...

If this was The beatles it would have promoted and compiled much differently.

I hadn't thought about this for a while as I'm not much of a fan any more, but those Anthology cds are a hideous disaster, in retrospect...

Why the hell didn't they just stick 'Strawberry Fields (take 1)' or whatever on there instead of cobbling together different takes like that? Awful.

i never they did that... but I haven't listened to it in years. I thought it sounded good IIRC, long ago. I see your point though.

So, as far as completely unreleased tracks in any form we have:

(Wouldn't It Be Nice To) Live Again
California Feelin'
Goin' To The Beach
Why Don't They Let Us Fall In Love
Da Doo Ron Ron
Soul Searchin'
You're Still A Mystery
Sherry She Needs Me (1965 Track w/1976 Vocal)
Mona Kana (Instrumental Track)
Where Is She?
I Believe In Miracles (Vocal Section)
Why (Instrumental Track)
Barnyard Blues
You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling
My Love Lives On

*I haven't included Back Home as a version was released on 15BO. California Feelin', Soul Searchin' and Sherry She Needs Me are included as although they all have versions released on BB solo records, this is their first appearance on a Beach Boys release.

They did. They had the clean Strawberry Fields demo, Strawberry Fields take 1, and Strawberry Fields take 7 -- except that they faded the latter out to fade in a bit of percussion track right at the end.

I don't know about "completely unreleased" regarding "Soul Searchin'" since Brian released a new studio version on Gettin' In Over My Head back in 2004. But you were probably referring to a Beach Boys recording. Wink

Please no Phil.  Please.

He would crap all over each thread with conspiracy theories (track list isn't real, set won't come out, etc.) and/or rabid criticisms of the set that make TV Forces look calm.  And of course, numerous posters would make it their mission to put him in his place rather than stick to the subject.  Let's have some sane discussion without him.

Damn, I'm sorry. Undecided It's been the longest of days. I don't even retain the mental capacities to properly acknowledge what kind of intelligence we received today and what it means for Beach Boys fandom. I'm just happy MIC is going to turn out okay, I guess.

My guess is that he'll still find something to bitch about. Say that Capitols' "wall of secrecy has "driven" fans to in-fighting over the track line-up, etc, etc. You know, the usual boring routine. Of course, never admitting that he was 100% wrong (as usual), while simply changing course.

"Our Prayer" is listed as "(2012 "Smile Sessions" Stereo Mix). So I am going to bet it's just a typo.

I checked, and of course you're right, but my general point remains. A quick look at the wikipedia for that album shows the phrase 'composite of takes' showing up a good few times. Not really what you want to see as a hardcore fan, yet enough dicking about and fluffed takes have been left in that it's not like this editing was done to make things more palatable to the casual listener. Really an odd series of releases that barely rendered one bootleg redundant.
