What has been the best double album ever?
The Wall? Electric Ladyland? Exile On Main St? Physical Graffiti? The White Album?

Vote for your favourite double album. http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/pages/double_album

Todd Rundgren, Something/Anything
For those who've never heard this album, here is your chance:
LISTEN ON GROOVESHARK

It's rare for a single album to not have a mediocre song on it, but it's even rarer for a double album to not have a mediocre song on it. Imagine Rumours as a double album (with a few goofy songs in there)

Todd Rundgren, Something/Anything

Saw the thread and was going to post the same thing and I've only heard it twice. My second thought was Psychedelic Pill.

I'm right now listening to it for about the 150th time, and it's just as good as it was the first or second time I heard it.

A college roommate got me listening to it back around '84. It's been part of my regular repetoire ever since.

I'm not a fan of Something/Anything (or really Rundgren), myself. I've revisited that album every once in a while, as I bought it at a great price after having it recommended some years back. But there are only a few tunes I like.

My vote for best double album ever is probably the Mothers of Invention's Freak Out, though I'd have to give it a little more thought to be definitive about it. Second choice: Poison's Swallow This...Live!*

Somehow, Luther, I thought Something/Anything would be right up your street!

My knackered mind is saying Songs In The Key Of Life. Unlike most double records, it doesn't have a incredibly duff track on it. And it has Sir Duke on it. Nuff. Said.

A boring choice, but I'll go with the White Album.

I was just about to say the same thing.  I have to go with the White Album.  If i'm being honest, that's the one I enjoyed the most (not counting greatest hits double albums).

I'd give a nod of agreememnt as well to Mellon Collie and the infinte sadness.  When I was a teenager that album was pretty epic, we thought we were blessed to be getting such great music from a band.  They came to town and blew the roof off the place, he played until well after midnight when every other band always quit at 11.  Towards the end, Billy was the only one on the stage, just kept going and going and probably 75% of the audience had already went home!  Awesome.

Uncle Meat by Frank Zappa, for me, is the best double album ever.

'Quadrophenia', with 'Blonde on Blonde' as a very close second. Both albums are in my top 10 all-time.

I've gotta say, it's not fair to say "no love for..." when the question is just to pick your favorite one. For example, Blonde on Blonde is one of my 10-15 favorite albums, but Freak Out is one of my 5-10 favorites: I'd hardly call that no love for Blonde on Blonde, just that it wasn't the question.

Blame the thread-maker! Get your pitchforks and torches!

Out of The Blue, some dud songs but the album artwork was epic for its time...
