"Reach out in the Darkness" by Friend & Lover, one of the finest fake  'hippie anthem'-s. It's seemingly modelled on songs from exactly contamporary HAIR and has a soulful chick paired with a Robin Gibb-type guy doing his own Bee Gees-like verses between the 'So Groovy now, people trying to get together' let-the-sunshine-in choruses.

This could easily be turned into an AT&T commercial, and almost certainly was; with "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing" , evidence of the thin line between sincere generational statements and advertising jingles (selling top 40 songs to the 'youth market' in 1968 or so was pretty much the same deal as selling them Coke) .

I've just succumbed to the hype and done something I haven't done for a while.  Bought a new album by one of those new-fangled modern day young bands.  This one The Arctic Monkeys debut album, who are currently the big new rage in UK, don't know about anywhere else.  It's pretty good on first listening.
