On second thought that use of the intro (verse) seems a boring way to revamp a classic for the 50's beat market.
When I heard it from the other room on autoplay  it really sounded like a platters record...that good,

But on second try, It doesn't come across as dumb enough. Too supperclub.
sophisticated in that clumsy Jackie Wilson solo records-way

  t's not  "Who Sorry Now".

Thpugh Who's sorry now was never as good a song as stardust. S

o I suppose the song stardust is just so good that mediocre productions can leave me temporarily stunned.

Listened to "Sugar Plums - Holiday Treats from Sugar Hill Records" today.
Wonderful bluegrass/folk/acoustic music for when you are in a laid back holiday mood. My favorite is Doc Watson's "Christmas Lullaby."
Looks like it's available to listen to online.

Pink Floyd Meddle.

Yes. Funny, I just listened to Pink Floyd's Animals today on my commute home from work. Was feeling a bit bummed about having to work Christmas Eve and needed something cynical to listen to. The Floyd delivered, for sure.

Do you like The Wall, beachcat? Many say it didn't live up to its hype. Ditto do you like Piper? Dislike?

I'm not Beachcat, but I've always felt The Wall was massively overrated. IMHO it's too pretentious although it does have a few good songs and pretty good production.

I used to severely underrate Piper but now I feel as if it's a very good album apart from maybe Pow R Toch H and Take up Thy Stethoscope and Walk

Hi RR,

For me, The Wall is one of those albums that I have to listen to from start to finish in one session in order to truly enjoy it. Because the whole album is a single story, it's hard for me to hear singles from it on the radio and feel the sense of exhilaration I get when I hear the entire album. Was it overhyped? I have no idea...I was just a small child when it came out, so by the time I heard it as a teenager it was already the 1990s and very few in my peer group were even talking about it. I discovered it on my own after my dad introduced me to Dark Side, and this was before the days of the Internet, so I just formed my own opinion of it without any prior information. I do think "Another Brick in the Wall Part 2" has been overplayed. Perhaps if the album was overhyped, it was due to the accompanying Wall film, which heightened people's sense about the "trip through insanity" theme.

As for Piper, I love that album. My favorites are "Astronomy Domine", "Lucifer Sam", and "Interstellar Overdrive". If anything, I would say it is an underrated album.

Sorry I'm not much help with the music culture aspects of these albums. I grew up in a rural, isolated area and discovered groups like Pink Floyd and the Beach Boys by playing with family members' 8-Tracks which were strewn about.

^ Speaking of Lucifer Sam....did you notice that the opening riff was later on "borrowed" for  Sex Type Thing by Stone Temple Pilots?

It was intentional, although it is a common riff anyway (see "Moving in Stereo" by The Cars)

No, I never noticed that before, so I just went to YT and listened to both...huh! That's really interesting. I sometimes pick up on these things, but because I relate to music on more of an emotional level than a technical one, I do miss a lot of these occurrences. I have, however, just purchased a "Music Theory for Dummies" book in order to try to understand objectively why certain songs appeal to me. For example, I recently learned that I really like songs with odd time signatures. I always knew they sounded "different", but as a person with somewhat limited musical experience I didn't understand why until now.

^ I never noticed until I talked with a mutual friend of Scott (Weiland) . Now that I've heard it, I can't UNhear it.  The ironic part is, the melody matching the main one in "Moving in Stereo" is ironic because "Sex Type Thing" was about date rape, and the female character on screen when the Cars' song is played got raped in the movie.  Yikes.

Wow! Two of my musical heroes! Good call, gh. Smiley

From the sublime to the ridiculous...

I never thought I'd find myself listening to will.i.am. This track is featured in a modified form in the fantastic party scene in the 2013 version of The Great Gatsby:

Bruckner is my new drug. To be fair------ French wines are my new drug.
Just as well bruckner symphonies, though. And it's the Bruckner that really lets me fly.
