The "Popeye" soundtrack by Harry Nilsson.  Featuring a second CD of Harry's demos for the movie, including a great 9-minute track of him coaching Shelley Duvall through his song "He Needs Me", which is very sweet.

From "Everything is Food":
  Everything is meat meat meat,
Careful what you put on your feet!
Once it lived on an ani-mule,
Now it walks around with you!
  Everything is food!

And the music is arranged and conducted by some guy named Van Dyke Parks!

I love that album and I could never understand why 'Everything Is Food' wasn't included on the soundtrack album. Instead there's a song called 'Din We' which doesn't even appear in the film.

Yodel collection "Die Schonsten Jodler" (2-fer). It's in German. Some cool & joyful songs. & beautiful.

Nilsson's "theatrical" vocal gimmicks prevent to like the singer. Smb. will say "versatility". To me, it's different case here, difficult to explain. Re: the song in question, its popularity by listeners - to be accurate the vintage 50s-70s music fans - is big riddle.

The Oak Ridge Boys.

Mostly the Bobbie Sue album (and even then mostly the title track and "So Fine"), but also "Y'all Come Back Saloon," "Elvira,"  "American Made," and "Dream On."

My son bought this brilliant dance compilation at the time on two cassette tapes, now rather the worse for wear. So it's great to see it's on YouTube, even if a few vids are blocked...

Disappointing, his weakest so far.

A band called The Beach Boys are mostly going to be a fun in the sun-themed group. And that has, is, and will always be just as it should. There needs to be ONE classic band that isn't a pack of endless "artistic" moan. All people wanna do is make The Beach Boys into another Beatles they are less tired of.
And, for anyone who has actually experienced them, surfing and cars carry PLENTY of emotion and life experience. They can carry as much metaphor as any Van Dyke Parks clever epistle.

Hi, Ovi. Pity, but I suppose it's almost impossible to be consistently good...
