What do you think, which songs would have been given to Carl and Dennis if they were still with us? Personally, I think Dennis could have injected The Private Life of Bill and Sue with some much-needed charm. Shelter and the title track chorus would have definitely been Carl's.

In my head I can definitely hear Dennis Wilson singing "Pacific Coast Highway."  It sounds spectacular, too.

...of course, with Dennis still around and writing magnificent songs for himself to sing, there would have been no need to include Bill and Sue on the albu,. You're right about PCH, though.

Dennis leading on Beaches in Mind - anything to bring some life into that tasteless tune....actually, I can't imagine Dennis wanting any part of that song.

Carl definitely on the chorus for Shelter...and the 'Goodbye' falsetto on PCH.

Also, fantastic idea for a thread!

I don't think Dennis would have touched Bill and Sue with a ten foot bargepole.

Carl would have done the "celebration" bit in the middle eight of the title track, too - and maybe Strange World.

Think Dennis could do a good job on SG...make it even more poignant. Carl on Shelter, bridge of IIT, at least the bridge of TWGMTR.

Carl - Shelter
Dennis - Pacific Coast Highway (though I'd like to think he'd have an original song to contribute)

I'm wondering if "Waves of love" would have been re-recorded if Carl was still here for the cd?

I'm sure Carl would've sung Jeff's part in "Isn't It Time" also

Great idea for a topic , BUT very sad in reflection    Sad  but I will play

The title track would be a given Carl
HOWEVER on the other hand I can picture (hear) Dennis in his full pomp rasping POB voice nailing the title track

"we used to get around get up and hit up all the hot stops in town" is a total Carl line.

Yerp. People were talking about this around the time the album came out. If you think about it a bit, you really, really can mentally hear Carl's voice in spots, especially spots we know were originally meant for him to sing (the chorus of "Spring Vacation", for instance). But 'tain't ever gonna happen. It's only in your head Sad

I would love to hear all three Wilson's sharing the lead on Summer's Gone.

We'd have songs written by Carl and Denny replacing the fluff.

To further dampen the mood, would it be feasible that Dennis' voice would have survived, even if he did? Or would it be like Tom Waits sitting in on the sessions?

Carl would possibly have more leads than Brian - remember a quip in an interview (possibly JT?) that was saying that Brian's voice was like Carl's in midrange style (poss a load of hokum) so they used him thus.

No question that if he were here, TWGMTR would have the most Carl on it than any record since LA at least. But this thread is a downer, 'tis true.....rather focus on what the guys who are here will be doing next time around.

That said, I still wish it were possible to bring Dennis back, at least just long enough to give Jeff a few Melvins that would help get his falsetto right...a better option than autotuning.
