Hey guys, I'm in the area about to be hit by Sandy... if anyone here is in NYC or NJ, my prayers go out to you, I'm lucky to be further north where I'm a bit safer...

Hurricanes definitely should not have first names....
I'm in PA, and we're scheduled to get hit tomorrow night or so, but you can never really trust the bump forecasters (who seem to always be having a field day in times like these)...

I live in North Jersey. I'm not really worrying about the wind blowing my house away or anything but I'm sure the roads will be bad. bad storms are always annoying for me because I live alone and a half hour drive away from most people I know. I'm probably gonna end up spending multiple days with absolutely no human interaction.

I'm in NYC, not too far from a few evacuation zones. Apparently the area I'm in is high enough as to not get flooded. Stocked up on water and snacks. I'm just hoping we don't lose power!

I'm up in the Adirondacks-northern NY...not exactly a flood zone, but there is a potential for rivers to take bridges out...crossing my fingers it misses us; actually hope it misses everyone. We don't really need another Irene.

They closed all the schools/some businesses in my area, yet there is virtually no wind and barely any rain coming down right now. If I lived anywhere near the coast in NJ or NY I'd stay home from work/school today. But further inland it is probably safe for a while.
The derecho that hit the East Coast a few months ago was damn annoying (nearly 3 days without power for me, weeks for others) - and this storm promises to be much worse ugh. I hope everyone in the path of this storm stays safe!

Because I'm a moron, I went out to go grab a couple food items - I didn't really need them, but just to be safe, y'know....I pulled into the parking lot, and BAM! a flyaway cart nails my passenger side mirror. Hanging by the wires. Gonna cost $200 to replace.
I'm staying in - lesson learned!

I have such a deep hatred for the lazy ass people who can't walk the extra 10 feet to put their cart in the cart-holding area(s)....I've seen stuff like this ^ happen needlessly far too often. Sorry to hear this happened! As George Costanza would say "You know we're living in a society here!" _____ The wind is starting to pick up here (in Virginia) but nothing tremendous yet. Watching the weather reports for NY and NJ now - yikes! |

  I'm safely nestled in the mountains (only lost power for about five minutes), but these two pictures were taken about a block away from my family's summer home in Ocean County NJ. I think we might be in for some major property damage. |

It sounds like your superintendent doesn't worry about the students' (& his own, as I see) safety. Generally, you shouldn't have gone to the school today. True, to be fair there's no rain or wind yet... but who knows about tomorrow... |
