Hi mods, if this is not a reasonable or feasible request, please ignore it; but I think many posters would prefer if the posts on the Rocky Pamplin thread from after DebbieKL's post on pg. 21 were moved to another thread. I should not have started an ethics debate in there.
I would say from my "can we judge" post before DebbieKL's but DebbieKL's was a legitimate question for Rocky.

SUGGESTION:

On some other forums there are 'thumbs up'  or '+1' options. Sometimes I want to agree with a post but can't be bothered to quote or reply as I don't feel I need to add anything. Is it an option within this template and do people think it could be quite a good idea?

Just thinkin' like...

I think it's a good idea. Still, "+1" or "This." are excellent alternatives.

If I have a Beach Boys-related question, where would be the place to ask it? Should I start a new thread, post in some general thread, or what?

Hi CinnaBeatle, I'm not a moderator, but my suggestion is to first do a good search to see if your question is asked and answered. If not, consider whether your question is likely to stir up a lot of debate. If not, or if you're on the fence, ask it in this thread:
http://smileysmile.net/board/index.php/topic,8214.6025.html
If so, go ahead and start a thread.

But it isn't the same. You still make a post with quoting your favorite post. Big difference.

It's the difference between one click on a "+1" button and one click on a "quote" button and typing a "+" and a "1" (or "This."). A tiny difference really, as I see it. But a major difference to the mods.  Cool Guy

Moderator Question,

What do you guys have in place when one of you get embroiled in a thread and then moderate your own embroilment when issues arise? Seems to me it is a bit unfair to the other participants to moderate your own embroilment. There really should be a rule in place to not moderate your own discussions, especially when you are deeply woven in that discussion. Just a thought.

Related to the previous query, is there a set of rules, or guidelines, for how a mod should conduct themselves on forum ?

Apologies if this is a bit of a dumb question, but is it acceptable to bump a thread that hasn't been posted in in a little over 2 years? Most other forums I've been on discourage reviving threads over a year old, so I'm wondering if there's a similar rule here.

There was...then a few posters began getting pissy over creating new threads as opposed to bumping an existing thread.

Speaking only for myself, it depends on a case-by-case basis. If it's relevant, it's ok. If it's bumping just for the sake of bumping, then that's different

I've been replying on older threads because I've seen many new ones started and then someone posting a link to an existing thread about the same or similar thing. Please let me know if that's not the right way to go about it.

I suppose in the case of polls (like in BB media section) it's the right thing to go comment on older subjects. I think it's nice that newer members get to comment on older conversations... that can sometimes be revived, especially if a lot of time has passed.

I'd like to request the removal of Lowbacca from the mod team, as he rarely shows up and isn't much involved with this board. Of course, I'd also ask that someone else fill his space. As for who that "someone else" is, I'd say let the board decide, but you'll do what you will.

Interesting. How about Range Rover instead? Great sense of humour, compassion and understanding - and still posting!

huh? What did I say to get an ironic post? If I don't get the jokes - so what? My sense of humor/lack thereof shouldn't bother anyone. As for the rest - you don't know me to say that.
I think you have been nominated to become a moderator in here.

Yeah. Nothing ironic about it. I was only going by your posts. We need someone who's alert, reads the threads, can see through bullshit, doesn't do the awful Mike/Brian threads and, most importantly, contributes regularly.

My other nomination is drbeachboy.

My criterion for bumping an old thread is that it has information in it that might be of interest to a newer poster who would otherwise feel obliged to start a new thread rather than build on that possibly hard-won information.

Not sure I'd describe myself as pissy----pissed, perhaps, on increasingly rare occasions these days...

I do occasionally bump for the sake of bumping---when I'm bored. But not just any old thread----I try to find topical ones...
