(listen at :50) I just checked a out a rapper my girlfriend introduced me to and surprisingly in one of his lines he mentions Brian Wilson. (What a coincidence)

How known was Brian's drug problem and mental breakdown? Did any of you know of this back in the day? (My father knew about it and told me after Pet Sounds he didn't hear much of the Beach Boys and thought they retired.)
Did any of big names in the industry ever talk about it? (It's such a sad situation, I'm happy see that Brian is in a happier place these days.)

That 'song' you've linked is fucking atrocious!

To answer your questions: Don't know, probably and probably.

Try doing a little very basic research first - like reading a book or two - and then consider if this question is worth asking for any purpose except to see your name on a screen.

Yowch!

I thought Newguy's threads were generally well received here. It's a legitimate question he's asking and might be interesting to hear the older fans' personal takes on how aware they were of Brian's mental state at the time.

Plus the hip hop reference is cool. New sig there, ta very much!
Grin Thank you..I've always wanted to know how the people of that generation felt about his condition or if they knew about it.

Someone does some basic research, or at least shows signs of trying, I have time for them.

[b]Yet you've still got time to post a sh*tty dig.

Be honest, you just enjoy being a grumpy forum big shot who never misses an opportunity to remind lesser mortals that you've dedicated your entire adult life to obsessing over the minutiae of a pop band.

If other people want to ask questions you consider beneath you, then live and let live. Ignore it. See also Phil Cohen. Let someone else answer instead of just being unpleasant. If this were my forum I'd have banned you ages ago. Absolutely zero respect for anyone else.[
/b]

LOL Ouchhhhhh Burn! For some reason I have a feeling most of this is true. lol

I know it is but the fact that he brought Brian Wilson is so random ..I'm surprised he even know who Brian Wilson is.

There's some Xzibit track on YouTube where he raps over "Good Vibrations" samples, and EPMD sampled "Help Me Rhonda" in one of their songs too. It's uncommon, sure, but not completely mind-blowing.

No..just post a link of someone famous talking about Brian's mental state at that time.
Ever heard of wikipedia? You can't always just barge into this board starting threads to demand  information from the members.

Nobody demanded anything.  The guy just asked s simple question that he figured someone here could answer.  Not everyone has all the books or videos at hand or the time to scroll through endless on-line sites, articles, etc.  If you don't have time to answer, don't take more time writing a cranky response. Just leave it alone.

Smiley Exactly..the reason why I asked on here is because it's a Beach Boys message board I thought it was the appropriate place.

Well all the props go the producer for sampling The Beach Boys. Tongue
It's weird to see both worlds parallel.

Yeah, but hip hop is not exactly the first genre of music I'd think of that were heavily influenced by the Beach Boys.  So the fact that a Brian Wilson reference found its way on a rap song is rather remarkable.

Got that right.. Grin I hope it continues I want more artists from different genres to recognize Brian was the genius he is.
I was also shocked when Daft Punk mentioned their first name for the group was Darlin ' which they named after The Beach Boy's song Darlin' from the album Wild Honey.

Hip-Hop is sort of a producer's art, right ? Well it's only to be expected then, A Bri Drop. Every record producer I've ever known (or have known of) will name check Brian Wilson or Phil Spector at some point. Though, it's never a good idea to converse with a Bri/Phil name dropper. They sometimes seem to have no interest in actually appreciating the work, or studying it to the point of absorption.

Call me once somebody raps about Al Jardine. He wasn't a producer, and he kept it clean. Not so interesting !

Well we might not have Kanye West sampling The Beach Boys but we do have the Insane Clown Posse

I love that Violent J is sincerely receptive to the pro-surfing message. He's all like "Yeah, dawg I might wipe out, but it looks fun as hell dawg, not to mention all them hoes on tha' beach"
