Via lots of soundcloud interconnections I found a band "The Sunny Boys". Was amazed by their BBs renditions of Surfin' Safari & Barbara Ann, so I also checked their self-penned songs, & one of them featured the line about the BBs at 37 sec. mark:
https://soundcloud.com/thesunnyboys/03-the-sunny-boys-mahalo
Nice song, the a cappella intro is terrific, kind of reminisces "Island Girl" (although I'd say it about 80% of "Mahalo", steel drum solo & all). Even the singer sounds like a cross between Al & Bruce. That being said, there's 1 thing better than on "Island Girl" - accordion instead of saxophone. Added some sweet touch to the tune.

Uncle Kracker's version of "Drift Away" does say "give me The Beach Boys" towards the end.

I thought that's what they said the first time I heard it. :-) Glad it's not because the song sucks!

First of all, sorry for the reanimation of this old thread. I've been looking at the Smiley Smile board for a few years, but just joined a few days ago.
When I saw this thread when it came up, I wanted to contribute a song. It's actually my band The Barbecuties. We play pop punk and I wrote a song about Brian called The Life Of Brian. Here we go

Long May You Run is simply one of my favorite songs. Period. It shows up on a lot on my comp mixes of BB's songs.

How about your band's tune, Hot Rod?:

About Brian, obv., however, you will hear mention of many BBs songs. Cool uptempo number.

Blimey… hadn't dipped into this thread before. DW Suite starts off with a favourite tune (it's a trad Scottish folk song) of my partner's late husband.
Also Custer's marching song. For all the good it did him.

Also Custer's marching song. For all the good it did him.
The melody at the beginning is "Wild Mountain Thyme" - a traditional Scottish tune. Later in the song you hear "Garryowen" which is a traditional Irish march that Custer was fond of. I've always wondered why Buckingham incorporated these Celtic melodies into a tribute to Dennis. Was it simply because Wilson is a Scottish surname?
