Yeah, gonna have to stick with the membership on this one. Most of these new threads could easily be added to existing threads on the same topic or the thread about questions that don't need their own thread. "I don't know" is not a valid excuse for starting a new thread. Google it and then use the search function.

However, we mustn't make Newguy out to be the bad guy here...he's not the first person to do this. I certainly appreciate his enthusiasm (reminds me of my early days of fandom) but at the same time we need to keep a relatively ordered board. Having good threads disappear down the board because of endless threads on topics discussed ad nauseam or blueboard-esque "if you could ask Brian one question" sh*t...it gets kind of old.

I guess this is a bit of a failing for the moderators. I will certainly be more stringent in the future about these kinds of threads. If you post a thread and find it deleted, discounting any possible flame wars or physical threats, it was because you didn't use the search function.

New Guy, Your enthusiasm and passion (for all types of music) are well noted.

But, please take the suggestions by The Two Andrews to heart.  They are excellent suggestions we should all remember.  I've been guilty at times of "failing to search first".

Using the search functions will increase your music knowledge a thousandfold, and when that happens your posts will be greatly improved.

heh heh The Two Andrews!

Dude, you've been a poster here for almost nine months and made 1600 posts. If you can't figure out what you're doing wrong by now, you never will. The time for being kind and polite is long past.

And I might add a suggestion that when a question is posed, and others reply with the answer, it would be nice to acknowledge it or respond/react to that instead of moving onto another question in another thread. The feeling seems to be there that the point of asking some of this stuff is to ask questions rather than to get the answers, because there often isn't any kind of acknowledgement or follow up after the answers are posted. That's not specific to this but just a general observation. No malice intended.

AMEN.

I'm tired of his posts. The thread on Sandusky was a real triumph *sigh*, the Japanese threads, let's not forget when he made a thread concerning his own sexual feelings.

I agree, he listens to some great music, has a passion for it, but Christ his posts/threads are getting old.

He's supposedly in his mid twenties. How old do you have to be before you are expected to learn basic netiquette?
He could easily fake his age on the internetz.  Wink To me he seems like 12-14 years old. I agree with aeijtzsche.
wow really?  LOL I AM NOT 12 K!

See, he's not even 12 yet.  If the internet was around when I was 10 or 11 years old, I would probably have gone nuts, too.  Albeit using real English words.

I'd recommend doing that search and finding the information in that thread. It's the exact answer to the question being asked, and as much as you'll find on the Radiant Radish. Case closed. Smiley

That Radiant Radish thread was a good one because of you, man.  Accolades in your direction!

In all seriousness, what we have is a bit of a culture clash.

Newguy (do you have a real name you'd be comfortable sharing?):  This board and it's progenitors have been around for a pretty long time.  Something like 15 years?

Imagine that we're all, I don't know, cricket fans.  A bunch of us have been meeting at a pub for 15 years to talk about cricket.  We've broken down the great matches, discussed who the best players are, even dipped into the personal lives of the stars.

Then you come in, also a big cricket fan, but all you want to do is talk about last season's, let's say, Ashes.  But it's right in the middle of a new Ashes.  We want to talk about what's going on right now.  In fact we're watching it unfold on Sky Sports.  But you keep insisting on talking about this year old match that's done and dusted.

The questions you have are sometimes good, sometimes not.  But the good questions are usually ones that we're a little tired of.  There's nothing wrong with asking the questions, but we're sick of them.

That's why you should use the search function.

But when you really can't find an answer, that is the time to ask good questions, because there are valuable resources here.  I don't really know exactly how old you are, but keep in mind that we have some very august people here.

Andrew Doe and Jon Stebbins have literally written "the book" on the Beach Boys.  They have personal relationships with people in the Beach Boys organization.  They've worked hard to get answers to your questions.

Occasionally, as we've seen today, Steve Desper posts.  Steve actually engineered some of the Beach Boys greatest albums.  He was there.  He deserves the same respect you would give any accomplished person.

If you were writing a letter to a very important person wanting a favor from them, you would write it with a certain deference and tone.  Important people are quite often very intelligent people who are used to reading well-written things.  You'd craft a letter to such a person with care.  So if you want a favor from people, you need to address them with the deference they've earned.

There are very few other posters we've encountered over the years, that are real and not trolls, who haven't learned to find the correct tone for the board.  I think we understand that you come from a different culture than ours, but when you alienate people that everybody wants to see remain regular posters, it is up to you to conform to the board unless you want to continue to be called out.

I'm honestly trying to be helpful and not mean.

wow this is alot to soak all in..but i do understand..I might take a break for a little bit..don't wanna upset nobody anymore honest...I might just be a spectator for a bit Smiley
I should've just took the time to look at the search engine instead of jumping to it and asking questions that already been answered..I became way too excited after finding out Brian had his own health food store..my apologies..

This actually should be a sticky at the top of the board or a mandatory "must-read" for any new member that joins the board, just so they have a tiny bit of perspective coming in.  I am not insinuating that I am one of the seasoned veterans who can be grouped into the "cricket fans" described above, but something like this would have been really appreciated by me as I first got into this board.  Might be helpful for others too.

NewGuy,

I enjoy some of your posts (I'd never actually seen that photo of the Radiant Radish, in fact). But aeijtzsche said it all.

Why don't you start a thread, right now, that says 'New Guy's newbie questions'.  Whenever you feel like asking something, post it there. That way you can still participate, and the people who are also newbies or interested in answering can post there too. I'd guess it'll be a pretty active thread.

Yes, but at the same time we're showing the Mods how sick of Newguy we are.

Hopefully one day Newguy will cross the line (I'd've thought him starting an in-depth topic about him liking other guys was crossing the line (only because he admitted it was a hoax later on), or him telling other members of the board that pedophile Sandusky was coming after them was crossing the line) and the mods will realize that he doesn't belong on this board.
