Exactly!
I don't really care for 'most people/Joe Q. Public want them to play the hits ', but if you go by that strategy and want to play a set that will be interesting for non-fans you shouldn't play a lot of songs that sound a lot like eachother and even cover the same themes lyrically. Mix it up a bit, your back catalog has so many different things, and I think your impact is a lot bigger.
That being said, I thought they really played with a lot of energy and knocked out as many songs as possible. They were like the Ramones!

Maybe next year they will do another Box Set tour, like they did in 1993.

Would be great. Especially if they keep this band (the energy of Nelson was also breath taking yesterday) and have Brian on board.

I will admit that I'm a fool, as long as we both acknowledge the fact that I'm right
Besides, complaining about setlists is a whole lot more rational than most of the speculation on this board about private lives of bandmembers, how Smile '67 would have went and stereo Wild Honey.

I think that whenever I go to a concert, I have the right to have an opinion about the setlist, don't I?

Of course you do, but it makes more sense to talk about what you did hear rather than speculate on what you didn't.
Everyone onstage was obviously having a ball and, aside from Kokomo, every song in the set was fantastic. I've stayed clear of watching crappy youtube clips so I can experience this reunion myself. The performances and the harmonies were much better than I could have dreamed of. My standouts were Do It Again, You're So Good To Me, Don't Back Down, Heroes and Villains (wow!!!) and Rock and Roll Music (a great great version). Brian's vocals sounded really good too.
I think it was a brilliant festival all round.

Maybe next year they will do another Box Set tour, like they did in 1993.
The regular shows on this tour have been at least as deep as those of the Box Set Tour. And the delivery is probably better.
To anyone complaining because they did not play their favorite obscure song: how many hardcore catalogue-aware fans attend the shows? 1/2000? 1/2500? Face it, guys, they do US a big favor when theh include deeper cuts. They are entitled to play whatever they want. It is true that going deeper into the catalogue is cool in itself, the group likes it, and can lead to a better appreciation of the group's output. But let's be honest: those twist-dancing crowds of baby boomers.... it takes a lot of nerve to go deeper than the hits (which are great and they perform wonderfully) and sure as hell they have!

There was also another girl on stage after Barbara Ann, during Fun Fun Fun. She was playing Scott's keyboard.

First of all, they can play whatever they want. Second, it's not about them playing my favorite obscure song. It's about seeing my favourite band making less of an impact than they could.
You know, I have taken a look at the Dutch and Belgian charts and a lot of the things they play aren't exactly hits. Little Honda, Little Deuce Coupe, Hawaii, Don't Back Down, 409, Shut Down, Surfin Usa, Surfin Safari, Catch a Wave, I Get Around, Sail on Sailor, When I Grow Up never charted in Holland and I'm pretty sure not in Belgium too. Chart information isn't everything of course. What is a hit? A song that charted or a song that has been played on the radio the last 50 years? So yes, Of course I want them to play their signature songs, but form where I was standing people didn't recognize most of the surf and car songs. You can easily cover that part of your carreer by playing Surfin Usa, Surfin Safari + one extra and I Get Around and Little Deuce Coupe+one extra.
Tears in The Morning, I Can Hear Music, Bluebirds over the Mounting were Top 10 hits! You want to please the baby boomers, play one of those. Rock & Roll Music, Do You Wanna Dance and Why Do Fools Fall in Love did what they are supposed to do. Make the people dance. A lot of the early 'hits' didn't. Because they sound a whole lot like the song they played right before. They have Darlin' (charted) and Marcella (charted) in their back pocket. I'm positive their concert would be a lot more balanced if they had played those.

From a different user, another great video...a fun one to watch. This is the most fun I've seen Brian have with a song on this tour.
Look at Brian have fun on "Sail On Sailor"...he's waving his arms around and the other members are playing along with him, Mike especially:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BzUqemBeYUk&feature=related
By the end of the song, nearly the entire band are following Brian's choreography--hilarious!

I agree. Nobody should be trying to "read" Brian or judge what he is doing. The man deserves more respect than this. Just seeing this guy is a privledge. If you are lucky enough to see Brian Wilson performing, you are seeing the definition of a legend.

Hahahaha! I love this! In Tahoe, Jeff followed along with Brian but only Jeff. It's so cute to see the whole band at it.
I would love to know how Brian chooses his choreography. Often he hits his moves a couple words too early but this little number looks more about punctuation than acting out the song.
