You are so beautiful is from '77 iirc. The concert was filmed and yes, Dennis was high but still the most sober Wilson....

And I would recommend "(I Saw Santa) Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" as well but unfortunately that one saw a legitimate release on Ultimate Xmas cd. >sigh<

Yeah, and updated/amended version of this would be great. Some stuff just isn't particularly embarrassing/cringe-inducing/funny/interesting, and a few things have since come to light that certainly deserve a spot on such a compilation.

The live hum-de-dum chant on GVs is epic for Brian taking charge in a late 1970s concert.

This stuff has been around forever. The Brian talking to 2 nerds is when a fan (who shall remain nameless) snuck a tape recorder into Brian's room in SF in late 1981 while the group was playing there. Brian talks about City Blues, Sweeite and Stevie.
Ahhh, the fan is (well) known, then? I assumed it was just a couple of random guys. I think he even posts here.

"Brian Hanging with Nerds" is just a boring conversation between Brian and fans from some unknown year. I wouldn't say that. It has some gems. Paraphrasing... Fan: OK, Brian, talk to you later! Brian: Do you have any cocaine? Fan: Well, we smoke a little dope now and then. [LOOOONG PAUSE]Brian: Oh... Ok. Just checkin'.

I always liked the "ahhh" at the beginning of GV here. Carl sounds so calm and serene on the studio version, yet here he sings it as if he just stubbed his toe.

He was certainly not a nerd. He was a super-fan, and a good guy. Very bold to go knockin' on hotel doors. There is a much longer version around.
Recorded 4 December 1981 before the shows that night at Circle Star in San Carlos, CA. I was at both of those, and very disappointed when Dennis didn't show up. The Circle Star was a dinner theater with a revolving stage. The crowd was mostly rich folks dressed up in suits and fur wraps. No beach balls allowed!
I recall the dinner was very good. The second show was better than the first (maybe Brian found what he was looking for). They added "Pitter Patter" to the second show. I think it was the first time I saw Mike bring out "Long Tall Texan" - and some of the old Jan and Dean songs. Brian was really pounding on that white grand, and smoking up a cloud - everybody smoked back then. It was a fun night.

Brian's speaking voice is very clear on the '81 recording, much better than '76-'77.

It's interesting to see your life reduced to "Brian hanging with some nerds". I was one of those nerds and I'm just a fan ,like the rest of you" nerds". Yes it was the Circle Star show in San Bruno, Ca. 12/'81. It was myself, John Pickens and Les Chan.At the hotel Brian was wearing a pair of light blue adidas sweat pants and nothing else. He also got us back stage for the second show. It was an experience of a life time. We all could have died then and there and it would've been all good. I had no idea that Les had taped it until later on. I'm glad he did, just so I was sure I didn't dream it. By the way ,Brian sat on an amp and smoked while Al sang Lady Lynda. Also Brian, Mike and Brian's girlfriend took a limo to the show while the rest of the guys took town cars.
