I just realized... they could TOTALLY just release the other albums on iTunes... that'd be good with me!
Thumbs down. Buying lossy media (something I will never do) from a company who has a near-monopoly on just about everything anymore = bad idear. I've been waiting until these albums get a decent remaster (i.e. no excessive brickwalling, compression, noise reduction etc.) before I finally buy the handful I still haven't, and physical copies are always better.
What RD-0 said, times 10,000!!! Lossy media blows!

Very strange:
"Released: Sep 21, 2012
℗ 2012 Brother Records, Inc., under exclusive license to Capitol Records, LLC. All rights reserved. Unauthorized reproduction is a violation of applicable laws. Manufactured by Capitol Catalog, 1750 North Vine Street, Hollywood, CA 90028."
Not strange at all. Why do you think that?

Simply that it does appear to be a genuine 2012 release of Holland but completely hitherto unannounced. Remastered? Why else have the "℗ 2012 Brother Records, Inc." tag on there.
Whatever, I'm banking on a tangible CD release (and some better-paid work coming my way!)

There's gotta be a line drawn somewhere for me, and it's here. I can't justify buying a 2cd set for two remixed songs. I'll gladly buy something that I feel gives me (a Beach Boys collector) substantially new product. The Beach Boys have been very good to us, and I don't fault them for putting out as much product as possible to cover each fan base. But to put those two tracks on there as bait for super mega fans to shell out more money for so little new....I just can't bring myself to go there. Hopefully the remixes will be on the new (big) box. I support The Beach Boys, when they support me

Hey, I'm still tapped out from the Smile mega-box.
...does the fact they're remastering all these old albums in stereo point to a potential stereo Smile re-release one day?

Anything is possible but I'd wager a guess to say no. Because there would be a lot of "digital extractions", probably more so than on any remastered album of this or any upcoming batch. And like you said, it would have to be way down the line, because the SMiLE Sessions is so new.

You know what else is cool? Being able to be on my bicycle in a rural area as the sun sets with the open road in front of me or hanging out at the park I went to as a kid and being able to listen to well over half my record collection on a device that's the size of a deck of cards. Not just my CD collection - vinyl, cassette recordings I made as a child, my own music, my friends' music, music from video games, anything I could possibly want is there. I encoded those digital files with the utmost care, they sound pretty damn good (yes, not as good as vinyl, God forbid), and again,
I have the majority of my record collection in the pocket of my jacket
. Holy sh
it. I'm on that back road or wherever, and whatever mood strikes me at the moment, I have immediate access to just the right song for it. Or maybe the right song will come up by chance.

I admit I didn't keep up with this thread - I just got 50 Big Ones and was astounded that these were the only two 2012 remixes. I had (foolishly) assumed the set would showcase the new remasters. This seemed to me like a) A logical step forward, and b) A good way to market the new back catalogue.
I feel, just slightly, ripped off. It seems certain that the 2012 versions of the vintage back cat' will now end up on the big box. That's fine, but I am a little upset that 50 Big Ones didn't get this treatment.

So is it like just a simple vinyl replica type thing or it opens like a digipack (a la Beatles remastered albums) ? what about the booklet, is there any? if so, is it good or quite simple?

Is there a definitive fan made stereo mix doing the rounds? Ideally one that incorporates Linett's legit stereo mixes where possible? Just occurred to me I may be breaking board rules here, but I do remember people upping their stereo mixes so maybe it's ok to talk about them?

I believe it was Linett that said one purpose of the boxset was so people could "roll their own" SMiLE mixes. It would be asinine if we couldn't talk about these mixes on this board.

Barnshine, with some help from others, did a stereo recreation of tracks 1-19. Impossible for it to be perfect given what he had to work with, but I think he did an excellent job.
