PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

No, just that it feels natural to be back together blahblah..
Music is just Do It Again and TWGMTR.

Brian and David speak quite a lot (and Mike..)

Which might be why the lyrics are so awful.

9 out of 10 songs with lyrics by Mike Love are cringe-worthy. Bad lyrics aren't something new.

Refs to them being interviewed in the same studio as Cali Girls was recorded, and (from DM) most of the first four albums. Brian references TM at the end, and refers to being in the studio as a transcendental experience, to Mike's delight. All on good form.

Someone forgot to provide the interviewer with a mic that worked.

The piece is too short.

There is a far more greater quantity of wonderful songs cowritten by Mike Love than ones cowritten by Van Dyke Parks and Tony Asher. Even combined. And yes, Mike has written many terrible sets of lyrics.

that's true, but i think Asher's best trumped Love's best.  Though Love's best is stellar.

I was a Mike Love disliker for many years, but since this reunion I've grown to appreciate him once more. This is also due in part to the unbiased treatment Mike is often given on this board.

Now, because of one set of lyrics, the tide has turned against Mike once more! The board is rife with anti-Mike sentiments of a like not seen since 1992.

Changing my mind is  a herculean task for me. I'm just going to ride it out, and stay lovin' the Loverster

(And I'm half convinced he wrote Spring Vacation after reading this board, and seeing all the jokes about him name-checking old songs. The joke's on us)

I keep suspecting similar things, IHA. Mike's easing gracefully into old age seems to have gone hand-in-hand with the development of a wryer side of humour, among other band members too – maybe it has something to do with the fact that half their on-stage band now consists of guys who started out as fans, some of whom probably still read boards like this, and share stories about what's being said with their now-employers.

If we need proof, all we have to do is pot a request here  and see if it comes true.

REQUEST: next time someone throws a bra on stage, the band ought to burst spontaneously into Bra-bra-bra, Bra-bra-ber-ann.

Darian, Lord, give us a sign! Show us that you care!

Any more requests, folks?  Other than the obvious?

Mike is a comic genius if he wrote those lyrics to mess with us/ LOL

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

Cringe-worthy doesn't necessarily mean bad and Parks & Asher aren't even my favorite lyrical collaborators the band worked with. Mike is just super cheesy, nostalgic and "Mr. Positivity" wayyyy too often. In my opinion.

I think what the problem with those Mike lyrics is, is that they are not authentic and sound forced. They try to be something they just aren't. Plus, yes... they're cheesy and on a level every 4 grader could achieve. Back then he at least had the decency to use them on his solo stuff (or Adrian Baker/Mike Love projects) and not too often on Beach Boys material. But unfortunately that obviously changed.
